It died a quick death / Seller to the rescue
I purchased this to replace the Realtek RTL8188EE card in my laptop. That card was failing to see any wi-fi networks several times a day. This adaptor is also made by Realtek, though it doesn't say that on the adaptor or the web site that I could find. It includes a driver disk with a Windows 10 driver. This is sold as a dual frequency and maybe it is, but I have only tested it on 2.4 GHz links. It has stronger reception than the 8188 did and seems to be working fine. At this point I would recommend it. Loss of 1 star because it isn't clearly identified as a Realtek product.UPDATE: It died after a month of moderate use. It continuously and rapidly connects and disconnects. I tried different USB 3 ports and cleaning the connector. Hopefully Amazon will take it back. I reduced my rating to one star.UPDATE 2: Amazon would not take it back and suggested I contact the seller. I did and received a reply the next day. They gave me a code that was good for another adapter of the same type. I ordered it and it arrived yesterday. So far it works as it should. For this install, rather than plugging it horizontally into one of my laptop USB3 ports as I did with the first adapter, I purchased a USB3 hub with one vertical port and three horizontal ports. By installing the new adapter onto the vertical port there is no strain on the replacement adapter's USB connector and hopefully that will take care of the problem. I changed the rating from one to three stars for two reasons - (1) the seller contacted me quickly and wants to make sure I am happy with my purchase and (2) the now working adapter works very well.

Reliable product at the right price
I bought this when my new motherboard didn't have enough PCI-e slots to accomodate an ethernet card that would link to my wifi/router, so I decided to go the USB route instead. It's best to ignore the installation instructions for linux, which tell you get get the driver source from bit.ly (2IXCf8i) and then build and install the driver. The make instructions don't work correctly, and the driver that you get after figuring out how you actually need to build it (88x2bu.ko) occasionally causes IO_PAGE_FAULTs at address 0x08000000fff04300. These were causing my system to lock up occasionally. It's much easier, faster, and more reliable to install the mainstream kernel driver by doing the following:In a bash shell, issue the command ... sudo modprobe rtl8xxxu... and then plug in the wireless adapter. If you then issue the command "dmesg", you'll see the following, and will have your wireless connection ... [145398.745742] usb 3-4: new high-speed USB device number 4 using xhci_hcd [145398.894151] usb 3-4: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=b812 [145398.894154] usb 3-4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 [145398.894156] usb 3-4: Product: 802.11ac NIC [145398.894157] usb 3-4: Manufacturer: Realtek [145398.894159] usb 3-4: SerialNumber: 123456

Works great, just disappointing to have to have this "thing" sticking out of my laptop.
my laptop is a refurb, and I love it but kept noticing every time I woke it up, there would be no WiFi connection. I'd hit "connect" and it would connect and all would be fine until the next time I rebooted or it went to sleep. Gradually it occurred to me that my streaming video TV thing wasn't having that problem, nor my tablet. My son-in-law said the internal wireless adapter was rubbish and I should just buy a dongle. I bought this little critter and problem fixed. The laptop, bless its heart, recognized the alternate wireless source without any fuss, and it works flawlessly. The instructions were a little daunting, but really, it's plug-and-play. My only complaint, and it's more of a complaint against the laptop than the wireless adapter, is this non-cool four inch high clunky thing sticking out from the USB port. Oh - vital news. The instructions suggested the USB port on the left would be better to use, but I'm left handed and have a mouse: I kept bumping into the antenna. So I switched it to the right side (again: no "uninstallilng" or "reinstalling", just moved it) and it's fine.

Had to mess around with the 5Ghz channel but got it to work
I struggled a little bit to get this to work at first. When I plugged it in, it wouldn't find my 5ghz network. I had to go into my router settings and play around with the channel that the 5Ghz network was on (changed it to 36 and that worked for me but play around with it and see what works for you if you don't see the network when you first try). Otherwise, this works great!

Good wifi adapter, Fast speed!
This is a good wifi adapter, when I switched to 5 ghz wifi frequency band I hit less lace spikes, u get faster download speed over 500 mbps! When I use 2.4 ghz wifi frequency band I get less than 200 mbps! But keep in mind 5 ghz is for faster speed 2.4ghz is for further range. So depending on his close you are to your router your speed will go up! But over all I give this a 5 star! Thanks amazon, especially during this pandemic amazon comes in handy.

What lag?
Went from 35mbs to 117mbs in less than 5 minutes. well worth the price.what to be wary of is cable service techs. When I upgraded service from 2 to 5ghz and 5ghz it would not show up on computer network connections and the tech said I need a new computer! I thought I would just upgrade my 10 year old network adapter first lol. Quick and easy install and connect.

Works great, Installation is a bit confusing
This product works great, the installation was a little confusing, but after a few tries, we got it to work and the signal is amazing. You can't tell you're on wireless.
