I have a seedling dome in my kitchen with 12-100 watt cfl grow lights running 18 hours a day and they are pretty bright. In the evening when I am in my living room watching TV the lights can really be distracting. I use these to cover a six foot opening to block the light. They work really well for that purpose and look good too. They are nice and thick, but still soft, so they stay in place when overlapped but are easy to separate and walk through. They actually add a nice look to the the space so I plan to keep them up even when I am not growing seedlings. So it's not the normal use of these curtains, but for me they work perfectly and are a good value for the money too. Based on how bright the lights are and how well they block the light, I suspect they would work very well for their intended purpose. Review: Bought to divide up my studio from my apartment - I like in a studio apartment, so space is a hot commodity for me. I'm also an avid musician and recording enthusiast, so half of my apartment has become my home studio. It's great for my productivity, but when I'm recording other people I have to sit very still and make no noise, because there's no doors between the main room and my desk area, just a doorway. I decided enough was enough, and searched for a good noise-cancelling curtain to hang in between. This was what I ended up picking, and I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. The noise change is definitely noticeable. I can now move around while recording a take, even eat without worrying about messing up the sound. I wouldn't be confident enough to use my monitors with this, there would still be some bleed, but I can assure you just from using it while listening to loud music that the sound is definitely dampened in the other room. For regular use with a window, I'm sure outside noise becomes negligible. An unexpected use of this was the temperature protection, or whatever you want to call it. My radiator is in the main room, and all of my equipment kind of acts as the heater of my little studio. But sometimes smoke can find it's way into the room...So the windows get cracked a bit. I don't mind the cold, so I never really cared, but when I started using this I noticed that my main room did not change in temperature one bit. Stepping from one side of the curtain to the other was a night and day temperature difference, literally. I was very impressed with that, and didn't even intend for that to be the case. Overall, your use of this may be entirely different than mine, but I can still highly, HIGHLY recommend this. It is most definitely black, and I can assure you there's no light bleeding that I can notice, and the noise reduction and temperature maintenance is great. You can't go wrong. UPDATE: 2 years later, I've expanded my set to include two of these curtains. I no longer live in a studio apartment, and my music studio now gets a standalone room! So I've had to change my approach to isolate sound when recording, but I now hang two of these blackout curtains in my bedroom so that I can wake up when I want to, not when that pesky sun wants me to! Great for people keeping odd schedules, people with cats that love the dark, people with music studio apartments, everyone!

Don't buy flimsy paper Redi-Shades! Stick with Eclipse!
I work overnights, 5 days a week, and this curtain has solved my daytime sleep problems! My best Amazon purchase ever. Having purchased those pleated paper Redi-Shades for my infant son years ago, which were just "okay" (they had to be taped carefully to block out the light and were easily torn), I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of quality. Especially since the Eclipse curtain costs less than $25. I was thrilled when I opened the package and found a large panel of thick, hefty fabric with a fused-on lining, and an attractive finish. Well-made and substantial. The window in my bedroom doesn't have a bar to hang curtains, so I've simply duct-taped this one at the top. The window is over 5' off the ground, and this curtain drapes beautifully, falls completely to the floor, and blocks ALL the daylight, even in summer. I can now have complete nighttime when I need it, and I am no longer constantly exhausted from daylight confounding my circadian cycle. I fall asleep quickly and stay asleep. HIGHLY recommend.

uneven length but work well to block light
My husband works night shifts so it is important for our bedroom to be as dark as possible. These curtains work very well and my husband was glad to be able to sleep more soundly. Our walls are painted light grey and we have a dark grey chair in front of the window. I went with the black curtains and they look nice in the room. My only complaint is, as others reported too, they are not all the same length. I have two large windows, I ordered 4 panels, put them two at a time in the dryer to fluff and remove wrinkles and then had to measure and figure out how to use them and have them still look nice. I have two panels that are the same so I put them on the same window. The other two panels are shorter and one much shorter. So I put the shortest one behind the chair. The bedroom is dark and that is the main point in having them but I think they need better quality control to be sure there is better consistency in the length. If these were for a living room I might have returned them, unless the sofa hid them. You should not have to hide a panel because it is too short and I am not about to hem the other ones to match. All things considered, they look nice in the room and block out the light so we can sleep during the day. The price was great as you might expect to pay more for curtains that really work. I would have given five stars if the lengths were all the same.

Far better than the version I bought at a local store - that one lets lots of light through despite being 'black out'. This one truly blacks out - if it's against the wall around the window, nearly no light gets through, and at that it's only around the edges.

This curtain works so well I've discovered that my youngest child is scared of the dark. It's not a luxury material but I've put it behind my existing curtains so the black is not showing.

they let in minimal to no light and keep my room a little cooler. just what I was looking for.

I need to try to get my sleep during the day because of obligations at night, so I purchased these curtains expecting them to block out light (they are, afterall, blackout curtains). On the packaging, it says "blocks out 99% of light." Truth be told, it doesn't. If you look at the curtains, you can still see through it (the weave is not thick enough to create a very solid blocker against light). It is as effective as thick linen, but still has noticeable holes. If anything, it blocks out about 80-85% of light, rather than 99%. I wish it were 99%. I would be a happy customer. Since this product didn't work, I'm now looking to buy window covers... It is very disappointing and upsetting that these don't work as well as advertised. I had been waiting sleeplessly all week for them.

would have been appreciated if it was stated that would be just 1 and not a set. Works as it should but rather disappointed that I have to order 2 of them to make a set and not expect )like most people due to the photos accompanying the description), that it would be just 1, Giving it a 3 due to doing half it's job.
