5 Stars for Value and Performance!
GREAT sand scoop for the price! I received mine as a Christmas gift and based on some of these reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect. I can tell you that I was pleasantly surprised. It’s got some heft to it. Doesn’t feel light or cheap at all. I used it at the beach this weekend - in the soft sand, the hard pack, and in the surf. It worked great - has enough weight to dig deep into the sand with a quick swing and still easy to shake out. I pulled up several coins and some garbage of course - smacked in to many shells, rocks, and beer cans - no damage whatsoever to the scoop. Only possible compliant is the sort handle - but that actually makes it easier for carrying around when not using it. So overall I’ve got to give it a 5 star rating for value and performance.

Seems stronger
This is my second time purchasing this scoop. This scoop seems to have been improved upon. My last scoop lasted me about 6 months yet I liked it enough for the price I paid to give it another shot. The scoop I received today seems stronger and I will be using it this week. Wish me luck.

Flimsy
Not very sturdy built but guess for the money it's ok

Good and solid construction.
Bought for metal detecting on beaches. I thought it might be too short but it’s perfect.

Extremely Flimsy Scoop lets it down - bent on 1st use dry sand!
Scoop part caved in on 1st hour use on dry sand. Forgot my regular full size scoop on vacation, so ordered this as a make-do while away, my Wife sometimes detects with me (she has her own detector) so thought this would be fine for her in future when I have my regular one. Took it out on dry sand and noticed first short session the underside scoop part have just pushed in with light use. I was not pushing hard. Shame, as although I'm 6' 2" when I unpacked it I thought wow I'm gonna ruin my back it was actually quite easy and pleasant to use being so tall and it was really nice being so light compapred to my full size one, this you can just sling over your shoulder (although advantage with full size you can drag it behind you and see where you've been). So if it wasn't for the instant bending under light use I would have given it 5 stars, as the bending in reduces the amount of sand you can get in and makes it harder to find targets.Fix the super thin scoop mouth and I'd keep it this one got returned. Also if it was sturdier scoop I think theyd have less complaints about how sharp the scoop edge is (I didn't notice personally).I attach many pics. It didn't get much worse on a trip that included Florida, NC and Maryland beaches but as the worst was done while it was fresh new it meant its sand scooping capacity was near halved.

it's sturdy, has a very nice handle with a grip ...
I have to confess, we didn't buy this for its intended purpose. My husband is a long distance truck driver. He sometimes has to crawl on top of his trailer and open one of the lids and dig out enough product for a sample to be tested (usually lime). So, we bought this so he doesn't have to get on his hands and knees to get the job done. He loves it. It is saving his back. We did insert a large can into the holder and it fits perfectly. For people that are actually using it for sand scooping, I would say...it's sturdy, has a very nice handle with a grip that will not slip. I would definitely buy it for that reason also.

SURPRISE! a HUGE scoop of disappointment...
How would I rate this item? Hmm.. somewhat useable, but overpriced. At $34 one would think they were getting a pretty good deal; until you inspect the crummy spot welds on the flimsy sheet metal. Whatever you do, DO NOT use your foot to gain leverage with the scoop when digging. It will crumple. And after a few hours of digging and scooping, the welds popped loose. All of the digging took place in medium-packed sand. It would have lasted a fraction of the time in the hard-pack down by the water I'm sure. If I had it to do all over again, I'd either only use it to sift through the really powdery stuff or not use it at all. $34 was a pretty steep price to pay for this "discard after use" item.Looks like I got sifted on this one...-KS-
