DO NOT BUY THIS, BROKE MY CAMERA
I had an original Canon 5D.I mounted my 50mm f/1.8 with this adapter and mounted it on my body.At that point the power went and my camera is now bricked, completely unusable.Do not buy this product if you have an older camera especially as something is up with the electronics and I now have a £180 paperweight which either requires high level of DIY with intricate soldering or over £100 of repairs at a normal shop.THIS IS A BAD PRODUCT AND COST ME MY CAMERA BODY

Not the happy medium I was hoping for
I opted for these extension tubes hoping they would be a happy medium between quality and price. The Viltrox brand clinched the deal. In practice, attaching them to my precious lenses felt like I was going to compromise the thread (it was extremely tight, and needing a degree of force). I can confirm they worked with the autofocus of my EOS R camera used with the canon RF to EF adaptor. However, I wasn't prepared to risk damage to my lenses and returned for a full and swift refund. It is a shame the Canon extension tubes are so much money (especially given there is no optical component to them). There must be a happy medium out there but I haven't found it yet I'm afraid...

Good starting point for close up photography (not true macro 1:1)
Bought a set of these but they jammed together despite careful handling. Contacted the seller who immediately sent a replacement and I returned the original set so that was dealt with well. The new set work properly. I am able to use auto focus on my Canon 100D with these and the result is good. I wanted to put a step into the "macro" field and these extension tubes were recommended by my tutor before deciding to invest in a macro lens. They have been fun to play with. Occasionally it is difficult to focus, but when really close, it is better to manually focus and use a tripod anyway. My camera doesn't have IS, so I can't comment on that, but otherwise I would recommend them.

Fantastic for the price!
Excellent piece of kit.Lightweight but does exactly what it's intended for. Just don't expect quick auto focus - thought most will use manual when taking macro shots.Very impressed at this price!

Consider paying more for higher quality
These work OK (so far) but are made of plastic and the bayonet fittings appear to be made from a lower grade alloy than those used for lenses; the locking catch feels a bit flimsy. They provide a relatively inexpensive way of getting into macro photography but I'm not sure whether they would be durable against a lot of use. I now wish I had bought the Canon short-length tube instead. It would not have cost more than the set of three, done the job I wanted, and have had a good second-hand value if I change to a camera with a different fitting.
