Praise for the Sam Archer thriller series: ‘This has been one of the all-time favourites. Right there with Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan series and Vince Flynn’s Mitch Rapp’ ‘I read all of the books in the Sam Archer series and I cannot say enough good things about each one…I’ve never read a series where each book was just as good as the next’ ‘This is an incredible series...the action is non-stop from beginning to end’ ‘I can't speak highly enough of this author and the 6 books in the Sam Archer series. Riveting reading, great plots always with a twist, and likeable heroes' 'The best series I've ever read' 'Looking forward to reading more from this truly talented writer' When is violence necessary? A Federal manhunt is underway across the United States. A sniper has killed three people in three different cities during the last seventy two hours and he’s gone to ground somewhere in Washington D.C. No-one can find him, and riots have erupted on the streets in response to the shootings. The lead suspect is a police officer. As the search for the cop intensifies, the violence engulfing the U.S capital means nowhere and no-one is safe, especially the police, who are being targeted by rioters and gangs are making the most of the opportunity and taking over the streets. With the killer on the loose, individuals are taking the law into their own hands. A fourteen year old boy moves through the riot zone, determined to find the killer. A reporter tries to make her way into the city despite the rioting, wanting to get to the suspect before anyone else. And NYPD Detective Sam Archer arrives in the city visiting family. Or so it would appear. In the eighth instalment of the Sam Archer thriller series, the young NYPD cop finds himself drawn into a situation far beyond his control, in a city being torn apart by rioting and violence. Forced to fight or die and to protect others in danger on the streets, his focus is reduced to the absolute, most basic human instinct: survive. And as long as Archer has breath in his lungs, he can still fight back. Review: Another great page turner - Can’t believe how Tom Barber introduces the reader so quickly to the action. You open the book, read the first page and then start wondering what is going happen next, how is it going to happen, how did that happen, how will they come out alive when the odds are stacked so high against them? Sure enough Sam Archer the hero keeps you guessing and wondering and thirsty for his next assignment. Review: It’s good. A talented writer. - Fast paced and has great twists and turns. Yes, a bit too much repetition which is a pity. Some people are so focused on being critical that they don’t say how good the story is. I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Hunted in DC!
Sam's partner's son is killed by the same Sniper who is responsible for two other deaths. When CTU is sidelined by the FBI and the prime suspect is an old friend of his Sam finds himself heading for DC and a whole lot of trouble. It soon becomes clear that nothing is as it seems and if he doesn't figure things out quickly it's not just his life that could be lost. With his family at risk and on the run with the suspect, a teen and the journalist sister of one of the victims it's just as well that Sam never gives up and will fight til his dying breath. Because that's what it might take for everyone to get out alive. Archer and co. are facing insurmountable odds and villains prepared to watch a city burn in this breakneck paced thriller that I thoroughly recommend to all lovers of great books.

One of the best Sam Archers yet! Make sure you have a clear diary before you start I’ve read it in 2 days!

OTT action
This was probably a 2.5 stars for me - but I got to the end and it was reasonably "entertaining" - if completely implausible. Can I suggest to the author that, when writing, he start a spreadsheet that shows (1) the passage of time v events (2) how many injuries each character has (3) how many shots have been fired (I'm sure they would have run out of ammo several times). Along the way he also needs to sit and think about whether the character could survive what just happened to them - because Archer and Ledger should have been dead from halfway through the book. And the passage of time? No one stopped for a drink / poop / sandwich. Everyone just carried on charging around, firing guns in the middle of a major city and surviving impossible odds. Just FAR to far fetched. And it felt like there was more than 1 day's worth of action packed in - even though there couldn't have been, because a school event was what everyone was aiming for. But all the driving/running around and so on - could it REALLY have been done in that one day?? And I agree with other reviewers - LOT of characters and acronyms and weapon/shell types. All in all - I think this is more a "bloke's book". Superhero type character - minus the underpants over his tights.

I have hugely enjoyed them all
I have just finished reading the 8th and so far last Sam Archer thriller. Every one of the 8 books in this series (which can be read independently, although it helps to read them in sequence) has been the very definition of 'unputdownable'. I have hugely enjoyed them all, although Last Breath, Return Fire and Silent Night were particularly good. I hope it won't be too long before Tom Barber treats us to another of these top-notch thrillers.

One of the best I've read
A gripping fast-moving page-turner with excellent character construction and exciting story-line that leaves you guessing until the last minute. Perhaps a couple of spots over-written but not a complaint considering the overall high quality of the writing.

Page Turner for real
Kindaaaa long than it needed to be perhaps but definitely not disappointed. A well thought out book that does mostly everything well. Gives explainations and solves every plotline

Last Breath
Another great action adventure from Tom Barber. You will never be disappointed reading Sam Archer stories. My only criticism is how the last chapters were written. Since this is one in a series we know the probable outcome. However how the fatal drowning in the pool was glanced over was wrong. We needed the niece’s relief to complete it. We also needed closure with Sarah. However the train ending was a master stroke.

action, suspense, mystery and mayhem...
Each book in this series exceeded expectations and was better than the previous books. Every single book had me on the edge of my seat, and when all the layers of the onion have been pulled back, the resulting conspiracy behind the explosive 8th novel in the Sam Archer series is a surprise, but so believable there can be no doubt - I should have seen that coming! Sam Archer is the penultimate hero, the guy who won't die, the guy who never walks away from danger, rather, runs to it so that others' lives may be saved. As long as Sam has breath he will fight! The recurring characters have all been developed into solid players in the situations explored in each book. Having now read through all 8 novels, I can't wait for another Sam Archer challenge to sink my teeth into. I can't think of any series that has so grabbed my attention and kept me interested, salivating for more. There is never a dull moment when Sam Archer goes to work! Even when it seems the last chance has passed, Archer manages to seemingly rise from the dead to bring the bad guys to justice. I highly recommend all books in this series and they do not have to be read in sequence. Each book is a stand alone winner. I rarely rate any book 5 stars, but each and every novel in this series is worthy of all 5 stars and then some! Non stop action, gripping suspense and MacGuyver like plans manage to keep Archer in the winning position, even if it seems like there can be no hope for Sam and Co to once again beat the odds and emerge victorious. Many thanks to Tom Barber for creating such a compelling protagonist and uber compelling situations to overcome the odds. Just how many lives does Sam Archer have, anyway!?!?!?

Breathtaking action!
Just as he did in the previous books in the series, the author weaves a complex web of action-filled scenes that rush at a breakneck speed to a satisfying and explosive ending that leaves the reader wishing for more. Fortunately, there is another book in the series...I can't wait!
