Great tool for people with allergy dogs!!
I have a chocolate lab who has chronic ear problems. He has been diagnosed with allergies, but treatment for allergies has not helped him with his scratchy and, quite frankly, smelly ears. I was at my wit's end after having him seen a dozen times by THREE DIFFERENT VETS and not getting a satisfactory treatment. I purchased this otoscope as a last ditch effort. Honestly, I didn't expect much. Every other otoscope that I looked at online was at least upwards of $80. Even though the Dr. Mom otoscope is highly reviewed and very popular it's only $27! Naturally I didn't think it would be worth snuff. I'm very pleased to say that I was very wrong. The LED light is extremely bright, and was just what I needed to see down my dog's ear canal. The magnification is absolutely AMAZING. When I first looked through the lens, I thought that it was a piece of junk, because I couldn't tell what I was looking at. I brought my hand up to the otoscope to see if I could get it in focus, and when I got up close I could see EVERYTHING! I could see the hair follicles on my arm, the tiny lines on my skin, and my fingerprint pattern in extreme detail. And that was nothing compared to what I found in Charlie's ears. The poor thing had impacted wax that was completely blocking his ear canal and had become infected! I have also used it to examine his feet and skin, as he has problems with those too. Now the one thing that I will say is that while you can see everything extremely well with the Dr. Mom otoscope, you can't clean the ear with just this. However, there are some attachments for this otoscope that are transparent wax removers. They attach to the handle of this tool and carry the light down into the ear so you can clean effectively. They don't have them listed on Amazon, but you can buy the LED otoscope and the two different lighted wax removers in a package on the Dr. Mom website for just an extra $3. Here is the link for that: [...] Overall, I was very happy with this purchase. It was exactly what I needed and I didn't have to spend a bunch of money. I don't understand all the people on here who gave this product less than five stars. I think they must not have read the directions and didn't know how to effectively operate it, which is odd because it is very simple to use. I would recommend this to anyone in need of an otoscope, and I'm going to be informing other allergy-dog owners about this product!

Great product for the poor med student
I bought this as a way to fill out my med kit, wondering if it would do a good job or not. I figured at $25 bucks it wouldn't be too much of a risk and I liked the idea of not carrying around a bulky otoscope. I was quite nicely surprised. It is extremely light, the LED light source is very bright, and the scope has a magnifying lens on it. I use it as a pen light for checking pupils and a dermatoscope for looking at skin lesions in addition to being an otoscope. Don't get me wrong - if you are doing serious ENT or derm this won't cut it for you. But for medicine wards to do a quick check this really does do an excellent job. It feels sturdy and works well. In fact, my attending asked me where I got it because she liked it and was impressed by it. I can genuinely recommend this as a great little product to check in your doctor bag or white coat to get you through exams and make you look good for not having to say "exam deferred" because you couldn't look in an ear or more closely examine the skin. The one drawback is that it says "Dr. Mom" on the side, which, lets face it, is a touch embarrassing for a med student or resident running around the wards. I solved this problem by carefully and neatly wrapping electrician's tape around the handle which had the added benefit of giving a better grip on the handle. I don't know how long it will actually last since I have only been using it about 2 months, but it seems to be well constructed and even if it only lasted a year at $25 I would still say it is worth it. Bottom line: Solid purchase for the money and excellent asset for the poor and busy med student or resident.

great for ears, nose and throat exams at home!
+ great price! + very bright light + easy to handle and use + comes with different size speculas for ears big and small - the speculas attach to the otoscope somewhat loosely, wish the attachment was better. I purchased it with hope to be able to diagnose baby's ear infections at home. Saves a trip to the doctor's if nothing is brewing in the little ears! The jury is still out if I will be able to do it: as the product brochure/info states it, it takes practice to be able to see the eardrum and then tell healthy one from infected one. They do provide nice guide and even picture of what healthy vs infected drums look like. In the meantime, the otoscope is great for looking into little one's nose to spot any boogers that need to be removed! One can argue that a simple flashlight can be used for the same purpose, but then the light shines all over babies face and the eyes really irritating them! This otoscope gives you a nice narrow beam of light - just to see what's needed and not blind the baby.

Works well!
Works well and comes with 3 different sized caps to view down the ear canal. I bought to use for my infant son, because I had ear infections as a kid, so I want to be prepared if he ever might get one. This otoscope has a bright LED light that you can click on and off. Seems good quality for the price. No complaints!

good Otoscope
They work good to check your ears for wax, or an infection. It tells you if you need to use debrox. Ive been to the Doctor and they tell you to come back when your ears are clean. This Otoscope is good to have, and it works very well.
