fresh take, powerfully haunting
When I picked this up, I thought, “Well, I’m in for another comfortable rendition…” but this book exceeded my expectations. I felt invested in these characters, and their story was not forced. My emotions swelled up and down. Despite a few saccharine parts that made me roll my eyes, this book was wonderful and I’d recommend it to any fans of Wuthering Heights, the punk rock scene, and star-crossed love.

LOVED! ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES!
I just finished reading this beautiful story and I am completely blown away at how good it was and how it touched me in ways that surprised me. I have never read Wuthering Heights, but thanks to Mrs. Lindner and her amazing retailing of it I will be reading it next. I am finding it hard to express how much this story touched me maybe it's because I am a sucker for the underdog getting a chance in life and love. I wanted these characters to have a piece of the goodness that the world and life has to offer. Man Mrs. Lindner knows how to squeeze my heart and leave it battered and bruised, yet hopeful. I loved all these characters, the story and the writing, it moved me, touched me and left me wanting for more. One of my very favorite books ever.content: language mildoverall a clean read

it was good...
Maybe it's because I read Jane first, or I like the story of Jane Eyre better than Wuthering Heights, but I didn't think that Catherine was as strong a retelling as Jane was. That being said, I did think April Linder did a good job with the story and reimagining the characters and its a book I would definitely read again.

Must read for Wuthering Heights lovers!
I was so excited to find this story modernized and reimagined. This was brilliant. There wasn’t anything I disliked. The story was well thought out and full of the angst and tragedy we love about gothic romance. I loved all these characters. I could have used a tiny epilogue... thats all!

Must read!
April Lindner has a wonderful way with words and weaves a story that you just don't want to put down. If you've never read Wuthering Heights you will be inspired to after reading the modern adaptation of Catherine. Likewise, I can't recommend enough that you also read her first book "Jane" which is a modern adaptation of the classic Jane Eyre. These books are classified for young adults but you can never be too old to enjoy these books!

Loved this book
I'm a sucker for Wuthering Heights ANYTHING. And I loved this retelling of one of my favorite stories. I enjoyed the alternating points of view and "Heathcliff" was more likable. Even Catherine is more sympathetic. Overall enjoyable read.

Cannot put this down
Such a great read that I cannot put it down. Great storyline and I am so vested in the characters! Just love the authors style of writing and slipping back and forth between time lines. Only downside is having to close my kindle lid when I know I HAVE to get some sleep for tomorrow.

Romance, Music, and New York. What's not to love?
The retelling of Wuthering Heights was really great. I loved the use of the underground music scene in New York.

April Linder has outdone the classic
Please bear in mind that this book is a re-imagining of the classic Wuthering Heights and as such may contain spoilers to the original for anyone that hasn't read it.Whereas Wuthering Heights focused on the bitterness, anger and revenge driven motives behind Heathcliff and Catherine's romance, Catherine focuses on the essence of the love story, and it really is an epic love story, intense and emotion fuelled it wrung my heart out and stayed in my mind long after I finished the last page. The characterisation of the principle players within the story is a key factor in differentiating from the original. Both Heathcliff and Cathy were not particularly likeable in Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff is fuelled by revenge even if it means shredding his own heart in the process while Catherine appeared self-absorbed, spoilt, cruel and selfish. In contrast Catherine provides the selfless heroine in the shape of Catherine and the brooding, intense, damaged love interest in Hence. Although we never really get to know the back story to Hence we can only presume that he was emotionally hurt in a previous relationship as well as not having a close loving family. Although I will say that Hence is a far more charismatic character than Heathcliff; it was easy to understand Catherine's attraction to him from their first encounter. The idea of soul-mates shines through the narrative. The story is told from the dual perspective of Catherine and Chelsea, 20 years apart, although the majority of the story focuses on events that took place between Catherine and Hence, some of the details are re-lived through Chelsea's investigation of her mother's disappearance highlighting not only the relationships between the characters but also the devastating emotion of being without your mother and not knowing what happened all of those years. It really did tug on the heart-strings. Misunderstandings and impulsive reactions lead to devastating consequences. This is fundamentally a character driven story provoking an investment into the outcome of the relationships between the characters. It is intensely emotional, due to the knowledge of the original; the reader is inevitably awaiting the emotional devastation that is sure to ensue. In spite of this knowledge the sequence of events within Catherine and Hence's relationship outshone the original and were far easier to understand in modern context. The parallels between Catherine and Hence's relationship and the budding romance as well as personality comparisons between Chelsea and Cooper added depth and understanding to the plot. The story comes full circle with a deep-seated sense of hope. The weaving of the dual first person narrative was an ingenious tool to connect the past with the present within the narrative, connecting the two lives in more ways than one. The scenes played out movie style within the imagination and to be completely honest with you I would absolutely love both Catherine and Jane to be made into movies - the term modern classic seems an understatement where these books are concerned.Catherine is the true essence of a love story - April Lindner has taken the basis of a classic story and outdone it in every sense. This book is most definitely a permanent fixture on my bookcase.

Enjoyable read.
I wanted to read this after reading April's Jane Eyre version. I am halfway through and find it interesting. Keeps you wondering about what really happened to Catherine.
