Great option to save space and money
These are a great way to expand your dumbbell set cheaply. Firstly, these will not stick to neoprene coated dumbbells. They are also too big for anything less than 20lbs. Right now I’ve got 5’s, 10’s, 15’s and 20’s. After the 20’s I only have 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, etc etc and it’s so nice since I have a small space. They stick really well and are easy to put on and not that hard to get off. You can pull them off with a decent amount of force but they won’t come off so easy if you were to shake the weight or something. I’ve dropped my dumbbells with magnets on the either side for a while and they have yet to crack or break. Definitely great functionality and are easy to use. I kind of wish 5lbs were made so you could stick 5lbs on one side and 2.5lbs on the other for a 3/4 increment, but I may try the ones that clamp to the handle. I didn’t buy those because I heard they don’t stick well and pinch your hand.

Exactly what I was looking for
These PlateMate Microload weights complement and complete my Snode AD80 adjustable dumbbells as if it was made from the same factory. It almost fits perfectly on the ends of the dumbbell. The rubber-coated and adequately magnetized 2.5 to 5 lb weight increments per dumbbell are perfect to fill the 10lb gap. This makes the dumbbells suitable for exercises that require finer increments of weight adjustment, such as arm curls. Adding the weights is as easy as placing them on the ends of the dumbbells, and the magnet will do the rest, and just yank them off to take them off. Snade makes magnetic add-on weights, but they protrude too much, potentially interfering with some exercises, and they're not rubber-coated, which over time will chip away the weight's coating. Sure, the PlateMates come with a premium price, but you would be hard-pressed to find a better quality product.

Fantastic micro magnet plates!
I previously had 4 x 1.25 magnet platemates I would put on the end of my dumbbells. Not completely flush....have fun getting those off just on the aspect of the magnet being strong AF. I sold those and got these guys that I put on the bottom of my Powerblock dumbbells. The way the Powerblocks work is you can't get to increments of 12.5, 22.5, 32.5, etc. all the way up to 92.5. These magnetic donuts allow you to get to those missing increments. Then if you really want to get at the 1.25 micro increments....you could buy 2 of the 1.25lbs. magnetic donuts and put those on the side or end of your dumbbells. Of course your big question is: Are the strong and safe on the bottom of the dumbbells. Well, I'm glad you asked. They are LOCKED on there like they're glued there. I tried as hard as I could to jerk them off there and to break that magnetic bond....wasn't happening. Those are as safe on there as you are in your mama's arms. So no worries there. Are they cheap? No....and you could make your own to be sure....but buy nice or buy twice. Aka buy once cry once. The magnets are ridiculously strong and the rubberized coating is very nice, grippy, looks and feels great. Can't say enough good things about these guys if you have a legit use for them and you know you're going to use them. We'll all be long gone and these things will still be holding on. Avoid radiation, breakage, heavy abuse and of course any type of liquid ingress....and your magnets will literally last for millions of uses.

An Outstanding Add On
What an important add on for my Power Blocks Elite EXP! Due to their design, there's no 12.5lbs, 22.5lbs,32.5lbs and so on. With certain exercises, a sudden 5lbs increase can throw off your gains. But Weight Plates is the perfect solution. These plates stick on strong with no worries of slipping off. On the pictures you'll see I placed them on the ends and or the bottoms when you want the 12.5lbs increment. But either way you have two options on placement (or anywhere there's metal) I highly recommend these Platemate additions. Ps: The magnet can be hard to release when placed at the ends. But my secret is just slide them off. And no worries, the magnets are coated in rubber so it won't scratch the dumbbells.

Much better than the original and worth it for quick microloading
I own the original 1.25 & 2.5 lb plate mates. I love how they can quickly be added, removed, or switched for microloading, but they sometimes fell off of my kettlebells (no swinging movements obv) I own Ironmaster dumbbells and kettlebells and didn't like the exposed magnets on the original, since they sometimes scratched up what I put them on. The newer ones have a coating over the magnet that will protect your other weights, and the donut magnet is much stronger than the original five smaller round magnets. It makes it harder to pull off, but much more secure. They are pricey but nothing else really does what these do. I love them for Metcon.

Perfect for Powerblock U90
Update: After 3 weeks I removed 2 stars because the polarity on these was ruined when my nephew tried sticking similar poles together. Now one of them barely works. While can certainly happen when EXTREMELY strong magnets, I wouldn’t have known/thought this was possible with these. I wish there was some warning on the package. The only downside of my Powerblocks is that there is a 5 pound jump between the tens. This was causing me to hit a wall, or to make difficult leaps that felt risky. NO MORE! These magnetic plates almost feel made for powerblocks. They attach perfectly to the U90s. They feel very secure, and yet are easy to remove due to the “lip: on the magnets. These are coated with a rubberized coating that feels premium, and so I’m not worried about them scratching my weights. They attach really securely to my weight table when not in use. I bought a set of 2 1/2 pounds plates to save money. It feels fine to put one on each of my dumbbells. The balance is slightly off, but I just rotate them between sets. They have to be removed anyway when returning the powerblocks into the rest of the weights, so it’s more convenient than having one on each side... Also, they do attach to the metal base of the Powerblocks, and for many exercises this works best (and so two weights on each is REALLY overkill). They’re expensive, but are well-made, and look great, and solve a problem and help avoid injury—so I’m happy I splurged. The only reason I’d consider buying the 1 1/4 weights would be if I’d want smaller microloading, but I doubt that’s necessary.

Plate mates 2 1/2 pound plates
Have been thinking of getting these on and off for years and finally decided to pull the trigger, they’re magnetic donuts, I use them in cap hex dumbbells( the say to use them with 20lbs dumbbells and up, which is right, dont think they would have enough space to hold onto a 15 or 10 pound dumbbell, as long as you don’t jerk the weights while you do your sets, they hold pretty good, if say your doing biceps curls and you swing them quickly or violently, I think these would slide off, just doing shoulder presses, on the decent, came to a stop slightly quick and I felt one of them slide slightly off the dumbbell, didn’t fall off but it’s possible if your form fails, but I think thats a positive, keeps me focused on form even more. There’s only one thing I could not believe and that was the price, over 9 dollars a pound is crazy for what are just big magnets, ( didn’t realize we had such a huge magnet shortage in the U.S), they do work though and saved a bunch of space and money for the dumbbells I didn’t have to get, also stick to kettlebells, for the exercises that your not swinging them around a lot.

does what it should
Since I have fractional dumbbell plates of 2.5 and 1.25 pounds for dumbbell work, I bought these with the sole intention of using them on cast iron kettlebells. I was worried they would not have enough power to "stick" to the bases of the kettlebells in use. They work just fine on the 12kg and 16kg kettlebells I have. They even work on the 8kg kettlebells although the base is smaller than the magnetic plate diameter. I tried shaking the ketllebells as much as I could and the added plates never moved at all. I like the fact that the manufacturer made a ridge on them to facilitate their removal. Don't try pulling away, just grab the ridge and slide the magnetic weights sideways. They are expensive for what they are but they are well made and fill a need when someone wants to add a weight that makes sense instead of going in bigger increments of the standard 4kg (9 lbs) that we see from most kettlebell manufacturers. I weighed the plates to see how exact the weights were. One weighed 1135 grams which is spot on and the other weighed 1125. I can live with a very negligible 10 gram difference. I would not recommend these weights on kettlebells of less than 8kg simply because the bases might not be large enough to hold the extra weight securely. Of course I would not use them on vinyl or rubber coated kettlebells.

Very solid quality, but high price tag
Very good and super solid quality. Can’t help to think that they are overprised though. Bought due to lack of alternatives available.

Great construction
I've been using plateMate for 13 years and have bought the donut and hexagon design. These are excellent. The magnet is better protected than previous designs. It sticks like hell to the point that they may be very hard to remove from the dumbbell. Only con for me is the price. I also wish they would make them in 5 pounds as I use them to increase total weight of Nuo adjustable dumbbells.

Great stuff
Works great. The amount of stick will depend on the thickness, flatness and finish (if any) of the dumbbells you're using this with. One of my dumbbell pairs is machined flat, with no finish caked on, and a single thick head...when I used Platemate it stuck so hard I literally has to pry it off to remove it! So for that dumbbell I purposely stick a strength band between the dumbbell surface and the platemate magnet so it's easier to remove after my workout. This explains how strong these magnets are. Some people complain about the price but you will more than make up for it in savings by only needing to buy dumbbell pairs in 10 lb increments (as opposed to 5 lb increments), and using platemates to make up for the missing increments. Remember to buy 2 pairs - one pair for each dumbbell.

A bit pricy but works - Sticks well even to coated dumbbells
Use to quickly add / remove microweights from adjustable dumbbell set. (Powerblocks). Have had for well over a year and use several times per week. Was originally concerned that they might not be strong enough to stick and fall off when doing workouts but never happened. Would need to intentionally try to "whip" the dumbbell and even then would be tough to remove. So no safety concerns there. Was then concerned that magnetism might lose over time...so far no issues with that. Bottom line - for a quick way to add/remove weight - especially in the incremement. These work great. Have even used to add some microweight to Barbell. Would give 5 stars if the hole was large enough to slip on Olympic Barbell (so need to stick on plates if using this way). Not sure why they wouldn't have fabricated the hole to do that. Otherwise, strongly recommend.
