would this work as a star guiding cam for a telescope ?

if you get the right lens onto it it can be fairly useful for most applications. there are adaptor plates and guides on various websites.

Anyone tried using this as a second camera with Zoom software on a Mac?

I plugged it in as my only camera and it worked without any set up other than Apple security permissions as usual. Btw it has microphone too. Mac mini 2018

It does but I found only when used with third party software. I used this camera with software called QLab running on a mac with High Sierra and works a treat for productions. The fixed zoom/focus is useful if you need to focus on one thing specifically every time.
