What is the TPI? 24 or 26?

Yes it can matter. I need a longer axle to put training wheels on my daughters bike, but it has a different hub/bearing system (than what is pictured here) that threads on the axle with 24 tpi (threads per inch), but uses this same standard 3/8 shaft. I have already bought one that is 26 that won't work... looking for 24. I did a rough measurement with calipers and didn't realize they had standard axles so close in TPI - now waiting another week and out $15.

Will this work on 20 inch kids bike? I need to add training wheels.

The axle itself should fit. I bought this axle to add adult training wheels to a 24" kids bike and it was just a little to short

Does it fit a 7 speed freewheel?

Yes. It fitted my 7 speed freewheel.
