Nelson: Britannia's God of War Review: Putting Nelson in Context - Not just a life of Nelson, it puts Nelson's life in context. After Nelson's death, his importance has been twisted, obscured and resurrected. It's an interesting story. If you are looking for his life story, it's in there, and it's well done. The difference is Lambert's analysis of his place in history sums up what is an amazing life with the influence that life continues to have on Britain. Oh, and Emma, Lady Hamilton is there too, but in the background where she belongs. Review: A good read! - This is a well written book with lots of action and well developed characters.

Excellent Read
Professor Lambert captures Lord Nelson in a very personal way and therefore, makes this a great read. The book will challenge you to become current in the European history of the period. The book descriptions of the forward thinking of Lord Nelson as well as the details of the battles and the ship handling was excellent and challenged me to become a little more familiar in my verbiage of the sailing ship era. This is what history is suppose to do..stretch and educate the reader. During my early morning reads I felt like I was on board and watching Lord Nelson as he navigated the Med, Baltic and Trafalgar. The post-Nelson information gives you an appreciation of why he is such a British icon. I recommend this as and enjoyable read!

Very Interesting But Too Long
The part of this book dealing with Nelson's life was quite good, although I felt that more detail could have been included about the battles between individual ships. Once Nelson had been killed, a short denoumount would be appropriate, however an interminable ending ensued that criticized every book and painting about Nelson that appeared for the next few years. Good research but boring. Another problem that was rife throughout the story was typos. Far too many for a work of this sort, and something even a spell checker would have caught. FoxtrotOscar

Nelson
This is a good look at the life of Nelson. It focuses on his career, rather than his private life, although these aspect are explored. It also looks at his affect on British warfare and as an Icon of his age. I found it to be a little dry in places (Hence the 4 stars), but the battle scenes were genuinely exciting to read and it was fascinating to read about this national hero. Lambert has obviously done his research for this book, and overall the writing style is easy to read and enjoy. If you like this period of history, or want to learn more about Nelson's life then this is a pretty good starting place. Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.
