WalthersTrainline 40' Plug-Door Track Cleaning Boxcar - Union Pacific #113808 HO Scale

This car has fantastic detail. The grinding brick is removable from the bottom of the car. My son loves it. The car has a very solid feel to it and the wheels and trucks all operate as smooth as any. The only reason I knock it a star is that the weight of the car without the stone is still too much to make it through my switch tracks. This car will derail every time. It's not a huge deal, we just reverted to using this car in a different area. Would buy again, especially given the price.

This item seems to be very well made and is extremely heavy weight, in fact so heavy that if one of your real joiners is holding a rail slightly too high the cleaning Stone on the bottom may catch it and actually stop the train from moving. It's very simple you just put the car on the track but there are no instructions for it, and the reason I pick this feature out is that it looks like you can adjust the height of the stone on the bottom of the boxcar but nothing tells you this maybe I am overthinking things?

I use this car in conjunction with the Bachmann tanker track cleaner. This car has an abrasive square piece on the bottom while the Backmann tanker has a more I guess I will say sponge type of pad so I spray track cleaner on it, hook it up behind the Walthers track cleaner box car and let them rip. In fact I am thinking about purchasing a couple more of each to run on all my trains and layouts. The only reason that I did not rate this as a 5 star is that while it greatly reduced the need for manual cleaning it does not eliminate it. But you will extend the number of laps before manual cleaning is needed. The only other draw back in on one of the box cars I purchased the Box car top actually seperated from the car and it looks like I need to glue it back together again. But for now I just run it without the box car part of the car.

Definitely a nice addition to your project

I built a 4x8 layout in my hot, dry and dusty attic. Over the course of building it (almost a year), I operated trains with no issues. I purchased this to make it easier to clean the tracks since I hadn't cleaned them since I started building the layout. I ran the car for almost a half hour and it left black gunk everywhere. My brand new Rapido locomotives have this gunk all over their wheels and won't operate consistently . Get the Woodland Scenics track cleaning kit.

Looks good. I haven’t cleaned my track with it yet, but I expect it to work well like my other one did.

Besides being a great track cleaner, it also looks like I am running a freighgt terain as I put it with my regular rolling stock. Being of extra weight it also has a great balance as it goes around my layout.

Love this thing. Cleans great, keeps my tracks clean. I bought another to keep it extra clean!
