Comfortable for a Beginner
I am new to this instrument, and I appreciate the finger cut outs. They make it easy to grip—and continue gripping these bones. Not having tried any other bones, I can’t compare the sound produced, but it is variable depending on which fingers you use to hold them.Fun & portable!

Great bones.
These were my first set of bones. They're heavy and well crafted. The finger cutouts do help - I ended up buying two sets to work on my left hand with the right - and the cutouts were helpful for my ungainly left hand. The colors are a bit different on the set and the sets which doesn't matter to the sound which is very loud. Instead of click-click, these clack-clack if that makes any sense to anyone. I wanted to damp them a bit and taped the inner sides to muffle the noise but once you get a bit more skilled you can control that with your hands. Great work on these.

Excellent for Beginners.
I'm thinking about getting another pair of these, after you get the hang of it. you won't put them down. Highly Recommended!

Awkward
The notches are a novel idea for people who can't maintain a grip on the bones, but they're too deep, placing the bones too close together for proper action. Now tuning the stationary bone upward past the notch puts enough distance between the contacting surfaces for them to work properly. And the maple has a nice, warm, mellow voice. But it takes away about a third of the tuning range. Nice idea, less than stellar implementation.Get a good pair of minstrel bones, Pea Patch, Percy Danforth, Lark in the Morning, etc, and get some beeswax (powdered pine rosin optional) to improve the grip. You'll be a lot happier with the results. One option to salvage a purchase would be to get a standard pair of maple minstrel bones, and use the notched bones as the swinging bone, with the regular minstrel as the stationary. It would be a set (L/R hands) that would help prevent dropped or flying bones, while maintaining a full range of tuning. It is the swinging bone that does all the flying.
