My son wears a five diaper and they are snug so I want to use these in place of a 6 diaper. What size would i have to get him to equal a 6 diaper

My son wears a size 6 diaper and is about 34lbs. He wears a 3T-4T in these pull ups and they are the correct size. No leaks except for an occasional a night but I have realized, after using every different pull up/underjam/goodnight for girls and now boys that the occasional leak will always happen.

What is the difference between the cool and learn and the learning designs training pants for boys? does one offer more day and night protection?

I can only speak for the cool and learn. We never had any issues with them leaking. I would say that it offered plenty of protection. Day and Night.

When you open the sides, can they be reattached? Or do you have to put on a new one?

They are easily reattached after opening. With one of my boys we actually opened the sides and reattached them every time to make the pull ups a bit more snug (he's very thin, but tall, so needed a larger size for the length). There's no need to put on a new one unless the first one is soiled. This is one of the reasons I have long preferred Pull Ups to other disposable training pants.
