Review: An excellent book on how to use the mind to heal the body you may want to check out. - As someone well into their senior years I have been a voracious reader and seeker of knowledge for more than 7 decades. My interests over the years have ranged from the hardcore scientific to the mystery esoteric. This is why while browsing on desertcart when I saw this 301-page soft cover book (Your mind can heal your body by David R/ Hamilton Ph.D.) I decided to purchase it. Over the years I have read numerous books on various types of energy healing, and I found this fascinating book a pure joy to read. This excellent well-researched book explains the latest research into the important role placebos have played in the healing arts etc. This excellent book also covers the methods and techniques of using visualization techniques to help in the healing process of many health-related issues. The fifteen chapters cover the following material: “The power of positive thinking, the power of believing, the mind can heal the body, the power of imagination and observation, visualization to enhance the immune system, “and many other informative chapters. It also has visualization techniques to use for a wide variety of issues. This is one of the very best books I have ever read on using the mind to heal the body, and if you are interested in energy healing you may want to check out this fantastic book. Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Samurai Heart: An old warrior’s poetic tribute). Review: A Powerful Prescription for Healing - I discovered the work of David Hamilton, Ph.D. after watching the Heal Documentary movie. As I got to know his background and his work, I knew it was just what I needed at this juncture of my healing journey, healing the effects of paralytic polio and childhood trauma. When David put out the call for stories of healing using visualization, I responded to his query. The editors chose my story to be included in the book. David brings his knowledge from the time he worked in the pharmaceutical industry and weaves in the latest research about the mind/body connection to empower everyone to be at the top of their game. How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body is for everybody; whether someone wants to improve their sports performance or harness the power of the mind to heal from disease, illness or injury. David's compassion, warmth and wit make this an easy read. He takes complex scientific concepts and makes them easy to understand. Although I have used visualization for many years, I discovered new information and was particularly inspired by the case studies he presents with people explaining in their own words how they harnessed the power of their mind through visualization to heal from a range of diseases, illnesses and injury. David talks about the importance of using the best that all modalities have to offer and how harnessing the power of the mind through visualization can enhance so called traditional treatments. He talks about the power of love and kindness and the effect that they have on our health and well being. Conversely, he talks about the adverse affects of stress and how visualization can be a powerful antidote to the effects of stress in our lives. I am deeply honored and grateful that my healing story is included in this tenth anniversary of David's book. I purchased many copies to give as gifts to loved ones who I know will benefit from David's wisdom and the collection of wisdom from research and patients that make up How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body.

A Powerful Prescription for Healing

Might work, have to try
Well, it’s worth a try. Straight ahead talk on mental techniques for any kind of ailment, illness or life threatening disease. The author is not lettered scientist, apparently, which might raise a concern that he’s not qualified to be writing on this topic, but having read so many health enhancement books by doctors and scientists, one finds these most advanced certificates interfere often with the writing. In short, experts talk too much. This author is concise and poignant, I read the entire book over one breakfast. Well, I’d say give it a go, do the visualizations, nothing to lose. Note he never suggests forgoing conventional medical treatment, only that the mind plays a strongly influential role in how the body responds to physical (and obviously also psychological) problems so you’ld be well advise to make use of it.

Profound, beautifully written, with love and compassion.
Amazing, lovingly written book that completely captures the essence of healing. It is written full of hope and optimism, and is written with a complete focus on helping others - especially those in vulnerable and painful situations - feel better. It is extensively and methodically researched and has an impressive evidence base - which, as a physician, I am drawn to (many people writing about healing are too quick to exploit the vulnerability that comes with pain and sickness to promise the moon, using unfounded and dubiously copyrighted techniques, for excessive sums of money and little proof of objective results). That being said -- not everything in this modality of healing can be proven with a randomized, double-blind controlled trial - and shouldn't be. The power and inspiration of subjective experience and the unexplainable must be respected by mainstream medicine, which certainly does not have all the answers to a sizeable swath of the population's ills (especially pain, chronic disease, and disability). To this end, the author's work is an invaluable and profound addition to my medical library. I applaud the author for the compassion, intelligence and sincerity he demonstrates throughout the work. I will be reading and re-reading this for many years to come, and it has helped me in my own journey.

Outstanding!
I'm the type of person who has a need to know how and why things work, not just "do this" and "this" will happen. This book has it all! David explains how and why our thinking and visualizations have a positive or negative effect on our bodies. He then goes on to explain "how to" and includes many, many visualizations for a great deal of illnesses. I've always felt that visualization was so difficult but after reading this I no longer feel this way. If I can do it anyone can. And through it all I had the feeling that David is genuinely wanting to help people. His love and caring shines through the entire book. I have read many books on this subject over the years beginning with the "Seth" books by Jane Roberts. David R.Hamilton's "How Your Mind Can Heal Your Body" is the best I have ever read. I have been searching for a book such as this for years and have always been a bit disappointed after having read many of them. Thank you so much, David for writing this book! Also read, "It's the Thought That Counts: Why Mind Over Matter Really Works" by David R. Hamilton, you won't be disappointed. More good stuff! : )

Excellent Read
I read and reread this book all the time because I learn something new everytime I read it. I do believe the mind is very powerful and can heal your body. I've known about visualization, but I had never heard it explained quite like Dr. Hamilton explains in his book. I actually visualized a "mini-me" going inside my body and healing my back. I do this exercise at night when I'm already in bed. I also visualize a "mini-me" working on my blood pressure. I liken my blood pressure to a balloon with lots of air. In my visualization, there is a meter with a reading of my BP. Then I start to release some air, and I watch the meter go down to a normal reading. I try to visualize as often as I can. Let me tell you, I don't have the back pain anymore. I haven't tested my BP, but I visualize that it's normal. I will continue doing these exercises. Maybe I'll start to visualize LOVE. I visualized my promotion and got it. I think you will enjoy the book.

An inspiring book
I bought this book for my daughter who has just been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, but liked it so much I purchased a copy for myself. As has already been mentioned, the beginning sections cover studies regarding the placebo effect and how one's mental/emotional habits can affect one's health and well being. This is helpful if you need a little science to back up what might seem like an unrealistic or useless practice. He also offers visualizations, many for specific health concerns. The book is easy to read and understand, with much helpful advice. I've used visualization to change physical and emotional situations and I know it works. Still, I don't always remember to do it, or am inconsistent, so appreciate the inspiration and guidance the book provides.

Good for beginners.
For a novice, I suppose this would be a good starting point on mind-body work. I've gone off and on with the mind-body connection for several decades now and for me, it hasn't really told me anything new except for the research and anecdotes that comes from that research. Affirmations are something I have struggled with in the past, probably from my own blockages and impatience and have gotten away from them. That brings me to my point. It seems to me that this is something that a "professional" should provide as I have had difficulty in the past with meditation and visualization. I fall asleep and the images do not come. My mind wanders. I read the anecdotes from patients who healed and I honestly don't know how they did it.

So grateful for this book
Being a very rational and realistic person and also a doctor myself, I have had lots of difficulties with self- help books before, due to the fact that many of them are too esoteric or far- fetched. Until I came upon this one. It seemed to be made for people like me. The author is explaining everything in an authentic and reasonable way with a nice sense of humour as well, backing everything up with sources and studies ,so even people like me cannot not believe it is true. And it is working for me in so many ways. The best book about the mind-body- connection written so far (in my opinion). I do recommend the book to certain patients who are in need (luckily the book is available in German as well), and their feedback is also positive throughout. I am very grateful for this book, and the fact that David Hamilton decided to leave the pharma industry and instead write all these books is a blessing for humankind.

Full of information you may find fascinating!
A fabulous paperback if you love interesting and positive info on the subject. I recently went to the authors Seed Talk as part of CPD training. He was so engaging and knowledgeable. Much of the info he shared in the talk is in this book and also in Why Woo Woo Works which is another good read..
