Works well with PGE Smart Meters
I purchased this to monitor my PGE bills. As anyone knows, trying to predict your PGE bill is a bit of a nightmare.Once you get this plugged in, head over to you PGE web account and call the PGE number to ask them to allow you to stream your data. The PGE rep will ask for a few details of your Smart Energy Monitor to allow it access to your smart meter readings. Once enabled (make sure its close to you smart meter, about 50 feet or so, and also that the device can access your wireless network) it will then start logging the smart meter data.It will report by sec, minute, hour, day, week etc (both power used and also the cost. If you set up your pge cost tier, it will accurately report all of this on the Vue Smart Meter website and also on a Vue app.Super useful to keep tabs on your electricity costs from PGE. I'd recommend this product!

It works. I’m very happy.
Wow, I’m very impressed by this product. Setting it up was easy. The device connected to the wifi and updated the firmware with no issues. I plugged it in for the meter installation. I called my utility company for the meter setup. They have a line for streaming data and customer support was very knowledge of the process. I gave them the information and waited for the connection. As soon as we validated and confirmed that the information was correct, the vue took 2-3 minutes to connect to the meter and send data to the app. This product was the perfect solution for our solar installation, which did not include the consumption monitoring hardware. We did not have to pay extra for electrical and avoided messing up with the breaker box. The price is great. I’m lucky that I have two plug areas behind the wall where the meter is. Connection to the meter and WiFi are good. I have no issues with the product so far.

Needs some tweeking
Got this as a gift for my father for Xmas. I have one for my home and love it. I’m also a numbers guy so it’s intriguing. I would say it helped me save money on electric bill. You can’t control what you don’t see. Well now you can. It’s nice being able to see usage and the app it’s perfect for what they’re doing! It connected flawlessly with utility meter and WiFi so set up was a breeze. My one complaint is the lag sometimes and it may be because I reboot my routers and WiFi system frequently but the LWH at month ended if is usually off by about 10% or so. It’s also tricky to stay aligned since the billing dates change from month to month and sometimes run 34 days and there is no way to change the days in the billing cycle.Other than that it’s a great product!

Works great
Bought and I have SCE. Works great. No issues thus far. Sometimes the power data won’t update / load in the app leaving the last hour or so of data missing until it shows up later on. I wish there was a way to be able to do a search in the app for a specific time frame under Sec / Min / hour because scrolling back to a previous day while on sec’s and min can be a pain. I can now monitor my solar production and or power usage. Been using for over a month and I’m very satisfied. SCE also has a 25$ rebate for buying this item making it even cheaper.

So far it has been pretty useless...
It took some time to get the device setup in the app. It kept getting stuck on a "firmware update found and will try to update screen". I tried several times but it would always just get stuck. I eventually force closed the app and opened it again and was able to see the device. Unfortunately the data seems to be very inconsistent but I don't see any errors. The app design is a bit clunky and there is no way to check for firmware updates (like the one it tries to do at initial setup). The graph design is also not very good. It is hard to tell days/hours/minutes apart on the X axis. Scrolling to the end of the X axis also loops back around to the beginning? Why is it designed this way? So far I have very little data and no errors or warning. It is just kind of useless.Pros:- Easy to pair to meter (just call or do it online).- Small.- Fairly inexpensive.Cons:- Initial setup process does not work well with no way to skip forced firmware update and do it later.- No way to check for and do firmware updates manually.- Graphs are not very easy to read for specific days/hours.- X axis on graphs scrolling loops back to the beginning.- Very little data with no errors or warnings anywhere, no matter how close to the meter I put the device.

Monitoring energy usage
Connects to selected electric meters. I happen to already have a smart meter installed by SoCal Ed years ago. I think they did my entire neighborhood so they wouldn't have to send meter readers out every month. The upside of these meters is they measure and record usage every second. This Emporia monitor is installed in a wall outlet inside the house, nearest to the electric meter (which is obviously outside). It uses the 2.4GHz band on my WiFi to send usage data to Emporia's cloud. I can then see this usage graphed on my phone, by Second / Minute/ Hour / Day / Week / Month / Year. The downside is you'll need to be comfortable with your electrical usage data being sent to Emporia. They claim they do not sell your data, but who knows? I figure I've given so much of my data to Amazon and Google already, what's a little more?On the slim chance Emporia goes under, there's a 3rd party implementation which allows the data to be sent to your own "Home Automation" server instead.
