Used it for 50 years
I'm 68 and have been using this soap on and off since college, until recently usually with a brush I inherited from my Dad. I'm fine with aerosol for a quick shave in the shower or on a trip, but like this better. The scent is mild and pleasant, it does not dry out quickly on the face, so you can let it sit there for a few minutes while the beard softens. As others have said, it does not particularly like hard water, and it takes a while to master how much water to use so that it does not go on too thick or thin. But I have found no good reason to use any other shaving soaps, which are generally ridiculously expensive, whereas Williams Mug is about as cheap as it comes if you don't get suckered by outfits that don't price it competitively. The expense here is not in the soap but the brush--get a good one made of badger hair. I've tried other kinds and always regretted it. Here's a very minor thing, but you might appreciate the advice eventually: Don't get a cup that make an irritating sound when you bang the brush around in it, like the pewter one I have. Many's the time I wish I had a shallow wooden bowl instead, but I've never quite been able to give up that really handsome pewter mug, even with its dwarf-anvil clang.

Just Like Dad Used
My Dad was a professional barber for fifty years and Williams Shaving Soap was THE only shave soap he used for his customers and for himself at home! You can’t go wrong. Why use foam or a gel from a can or tube? The containers are non recyclable and the contents are junk. One cake of Williams lasts me for three months the scent is masculine but not too over powering. Brings back fond memories of pop’s and his shop!

Works great-nostalgia
The scent is sorta "barbershop smell", if you get my drift and remember when they actually shaved men back then. Rich and foamy lather once you work it up and stays nice on your skin. Wet your face first with warm water. I usually just brush my face first with my hot wet brush and then work the soap and apply the lather. I do like the scent. Takes me back to the old days. And 6 bars, cheap for the price. Better then canned foam.

An oldie but goodie.
I've tried a number of more expensive shaving soaps, but William's Shaving Soap is as good as any of them. If you're new to traditional shaving soap and brushes it may take a little practice to work up a good lather, but once you get the technique of adding a little water at a time, it makes a nice, thick lather that makes for a downright luxurious shave. Since shaving soap uses water, I can get a smooth, comfortable shave without taking a shower beforehand. I appreciate the fact that it doesn't have a lot of perfume. ARKO is good, too. Nice thing about ARKO is that it comes in a recloseable container, nice for travel and useful for storing small parts when it's empty

Lathers well and feels smooth on the face
I did not find anything to dislike about this product. It lathers well, feels smooth on the face and rinses off without any problem. My skin feels smooth and supple after my shave and my aftershave lotion feels great without any soap residue. This is great, just use a good quality brush to apply. My shave was super close and complete. You will like this product. I could not find any mug soap locally and when I found this and it came in, it was a pleasure. Good price also.

Best Shaving Soap
I was very happy with this product. I have used this brand (Williams) when I could get it for years. I prefer the lather and beard softing of this product. I use soap and a quality brush and have so for years as I much prefer it to the canned, tub and products available at local stores. The price is great especially when compared to some over rated and much poorer quality soaps that one finds at specialty stores or the internet.

I used this soap for almost 30 years; some things don't need improvement
Same good shaving soap I've always used and my father used for as long as I could remember. It's a shame they stopped selling this in Canada and I now have to ship it out from the states, but since it's still sold at a ridiculously low price I can still get it for a very decent price even with shipping.I used to shave using a modern razor with disposable blades, I now use a straight edge razor as I'm able to keep it perfectly sharp (that took time and a lot of trial and error), and this shaving soap works perfectly with both.NB.: Ignore the account name, I share my wife's account...

Love it
Husband has used this product for years and it is no longer available in stores near us. He was very glad to be able to still buy it. No waste and it lasts a long time. Lathers well to give a good shave.

Lathers well, no strong scent, good price.
Great product. Getting harder to find in stores. Doesn't have a strong scent like some of the other products. I like that. Lathers up very well with some warm water. Lasts a long time.

Great product
My husband uses this instead of gel / foam . Lasts so much longer than a can of shave lotion and does a great job!
