Does the closer have enough pressure on the door while shut to keep dogs from pushing it open?

If you look at how a door is secured you will find that there are two systems at work, the door latch, and the door closer. The ideal system is one where upon opening the door the door latch disengages and allows the door to be pushed open. If the door is then left to close, the door closer swings the door shut while engaging the door latch, thus securing the door from being forcibly pushed open. The door latch is the key, if the closer is strong enough to ensure proper engagement of the latch then you have a winner. This closer works well with the system I have: my door moves freely with no binding, the latch is correctly installed, and the closer is strong enough to shut the door.

How does the hold open feature work?

You simply open it as far as it will go, and it will hold that position until you give a little push to close. no buttons to push or hold. works great

Premium price for a residential closer. Why is the documentation & images so extremely poor? Should be better to help consumers decide!

I have two of these on my screen room doors and I really like them. They are well made, heavy duty closers with an excellent hold open feature. My screen doors are heavy custom made doors.
