Jurassic World (Blu-ray + DVD)

The movie was nice and I enjoyed watching

Good movie.

I didn't get to see Jurassic World in the theater, so my first experience was watching the Blu-ray version when the DVD release came out on October 20, 2015. The film is non-stop fun from the first frame to the last, with only a few predictable moments where it lapse into the "who dies next?" syndrome of horror-survivor flicks. Mostly the filmmakers checked their political baggage at the door, avoiding a persistent flaw in Hollywood releases in the past couple of decades. There's a hint of "evil corporation seeks to maximize profit" but even that silly theme is presented more as the far more factual and realistic "sometimes people are really idiots!" (I worked for NASA for several decades. Trust me; sometimes people in positions of authority can be complete idiots despite having hundreds of experts advising them not to be.) In this case, the idiocy is gene-splicing critters to make a beast even more scary than any dinosaur that ever walked the earth; and then, of course, losing control of it. There is none of the tedious preaching about silly philosophies that spoiled Jeff Goldblum's performance in the original Jurassic Park movie. And perhaps best of all, Jurassic World's writers correctly use personal pronouns! There did seem to be a missing element that I couldn't quite put my finger on until I'd watched the film and all of the fun extras that came with the Blu-ray release: There's no moment of the Grand Reveal. A movie as grand and expansive as this really needs that glorious moment that played so well in the first movie, where after the first encounter with a brontosaurus, Richard Attenborough says "Welcome to Jurassic Park!" and the camera pans to a grand vista of all the dinosaurs gamboling on the savannah. Sure, it's been done; but if you're going to make a movie like this, do it again! It's a grand moment that sells the entire film to come. Jurassic World does have a moment of Grand Reveal, but instead of seeing the wonders of the natural world, we see a sprawling man-made theme park. Cool, but hardly as engaging as all those critters in their natural environment. Never sit next to an engineer at an SF movie: Although I thoroughly enjoy these dinosaurs movies, I do have to work to suspend disbelief when I accept the notion that, if we really could clone these huge beasts today, that they could survive in modern world. The issue that haunts my mind the temperature. Earth was much hotter during the 300 million years that dinosaurs roamed the planet, and those high temperatures might have been what was necessary to support gigantism. Immediately after Earth cooled down, presumably because of a screen of dust created by a big meteor impact, all the megafauna suddenly disappeared forever. So our cloned beasties just might not be able to live on Earth today, even if we carefully groomed a whole island near the equator just for them. Rats.

**This review is more about the Limited Edition Jurassic World Blu-Ray than the movie itself.** I was an avid lover of Jurassic Park when it came out two decades ago. Though less a fan of the two sequels that followed, the series has always been about entertainment and being thrilled and scared by the ferocious monsters of the long-lost Cretaceous period. In the months I was waiting for Jurassic World to be released on Blu-ray, I bought the Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray collection of the three original movies, which I was hoping I would be storing right next to some sort of awesome version of the Jurassic World Blu-ray. When I saw the steelbook edition that was being sold on Amazon, I was excited because it looked to me like it had a rounded top with the traditionally-shaped, squared bottom you'd expect on any Blu-ray box. However, when I received Jurassic World in the mail I found that the container is a perfect, Blu-ray disc-shaped circle. The circle that you see in the image is the case, the extension and squared edges underneath are not attached, but rather are a cardboard "stand" that you set the round steel tin into in order to display it. I have a pretty extensive movie collection and like that I have all my movies together, organized by genre and keeping collections of movies together. Unfortunately, while I love the idea of this limited edition, round tin for the Jurassic World movie, it's too unconventional and makes it almost impossible to store as I would any other movie. The diameter of the disc isn't wider than a Blu-ray case, but it's like trying to wedge a Blu-ray disc on a shelf in between a bunch of other Blu-ray boxes, only much more noticeable. This might sound like a nit-pick, but I really don't like how you're forced to store Jurassic World different than you would any other movie. If you want you have Jurassic World displayed on a table, perhaps sitting among your family pictures, this would be a great edition for you to have. If you were hoping to buy a version of Jurassic World that you can seamlessly add to your existing movie library, you'll probably want to go with a different movie. In short, I loved the movie, but I'm not crazy about this limited edition packaging. I would've been okay with maybe having a rounded top while the bottom was like a regular Blu-ray case, but this perfectly-circular tin is just a nuisance and kind of an eye sore. Apparently it's a very, very limited edition, so I guess I'm keeping it in spite of my complaints.

Das Steelbook, wer noch eines ergattern konnte, sieht natürlich Spitze aus! Dafür gibts schon mal volle Punktzahl. Für Sammler: Holt es Euch! Der Film an sich ist im PRINZIP (mal abgesehen vom fertigen Park) das gleiche wie in Teil 1. Zwei Kids besuchen den Park und müssen gerettet werden weil ein neuer Dino ausgebrochen ist und aus mangelnder "sozialer Erziehung/Bindung" nun durchdreht und alles tötet was ihm in den Weg kommt. Der Protagonist und die Protagonistin ziehen (wie in Teil 1) in den (gefährlichen) Dschungel um die Beiden zu retten. Es verging eigentlich kein Kapitel, dass mich nicht brutal an "Jurassic Park" erinnerte. Der Film ist eigentlich zu 90% vorhersehbar, wenn man wie ich den Ersten Teil schon zig mal gesehen hat. Natürlich gibt es aber auch einige Neue Ideen ist klar. Diese werden ich natürlich nicht verraten. Ich muss zugeben, dass mir die Protagonisten in "Jurassic Park" sympathischer waren als in "Jurassic World" aber nichts desto trotz hat es mir Spaß gemacht den Film anzuschauen. Was "Jurassic World" in meinen Augen geschafft hat, ist die Action um 100% anzuheben - Was das angeht, können die Vorgänger, meiner Meinung nach, nicht mithalten. Ist eben alles Geschmackssache. Wenn ich mir die Bewertungen hier so durchlese spaltet der Film ja das Publikum. Ich war jedenfalls begeistert, nach 15 Jahren wiedermal einen neuen JURASSIC PARK- Film zu sehen :) Ich bin absolut zufrieden mit dem Film, der Disc und dem Steelbook und vergebe gut und gerne alle Sterne. Man kann sich diesen Film öfter anschauen! Ich freue mich jetzt schon auf einen Nachfolger - Und wenn es erst wieder in 15 Jahren ist ;-) Bild und Ton sind im Übrigen so wie es auf einer Blu-Ray sein sollte keine Frage.

日本語字幕がなくても良いから早く手にしたい、と思い購入。8月に映画館で観た興奮がよみがえりました。商品の仕様についてですが、リージョンフリーと記載がありますが、日本国内で再生できるのはBlu-rayのみで、DVDはリージョンコードが「1」のため、再生が出来ないものです。また、「在庫あり」の表示だったのですぐに入手できるかと思っていたら、海外からの輸入扱いだったようで、かなり日数がかかりました。映画の本編は気に入っているので星5つにしたいところでしたが、表示違いがあったので星4つにしました。
