Shengshou 2x2x2 Puzzle Cube, Black

My young, 5 year old grandson loves to play with blocks, magnet sets and Legos. In watching his concentration and eye-hand coordination while playing with these toys, I thought that he might like trying a Rubik's Cube. However, I was concerned that, at his age, it might be too early and too difficult and didn't want him to become discouraged and frustrated with it. When I saw THIS version of the Rubik's Cube, I thought that this was, in essence, a "Rubik's Cube for Beginners"!!! This may be just the right thing, at the right time. He will get it for Christmas, so we shall see. It seems to be well-made, of good, sturdy material, and the colors are bright and attractive.

My son is one of these guru's when it comes to logic puzzles. He had what I thought was all the Rubix type cube puzzles. I was wrong. When he said he wanted the 2x2x2, I was perplexed. I mean how hard can this be really? Well, coming from someone who doesn't understand the algorithms, I assumed you solved this one just like the 3x3x3. Oops! Apparently not. It's a new set of algorithms to master, to train your mind with and fingers to rip through as quickly as possible. Apparently to my son, it's not just about solving it as it is about speed and consistency. In any case, oh boy did he love it! He has played and played with this little devil and loves it. He said it's a good change to the traditional cube puzzle and he loves to throw it into the mix. My son has used this for hours and hours and hours. It's solid. The stickers are bright and secure. No slipping of stickers. The individual cubes stay in place and don't pop out unexpectedly either. It's a great choice for the price point. If you or a family member love cube puzzles then definitely buy this. They will love it! it's a challenge, unique and super fun. I purchased this using Amazon Prime so it came very quickly. It was a slick online transaction. I love Amazon Prime.

If you want a solid, cheap rubik's cube, get this. If you want a solid speed cube, look elsewhere. PROS: - This Japanese cube is better than the Rubik's brand 2x2. - This cube is cheaper than the Rubik's brand 2x2. - (compared to the old Rubik's 2x2) This cube turns much smoother. - (compared to the new Rubik's 2x2) In addition to turning smoother, this cube can be disassembled (for lubing) and has screws (for tensioning). If you don't know what lubing and tensioning are then this probably won't matter to you. CONS: - The corner cutting on this cube is awful. In other words, you have to line up each face exactly before you turn the next one. It technically doesn't make a difference unless you're speed cubing, but once you try a top-notch cube you'll never want to go back. - Just my personal preference, but the color scheme isn't too great. It's the standard ShengShou color scheme, and you can order replacements online for a few bucks. Again, not a big deal. If you're tight on money and only interested in learning to solve the 2x2, at this price this is your #1 option. On the other hand, if you think you may be interested in speed cubing anytime in the future, for just a few more dollars you can get a much better cube (such as the Dayan Zhanchi 2x2).

Terrible quality. Fell once on the floor and 3 corners immediately popped out and cannot be reinstalled. Cheap thin shells, not solid

I keep a few cubes and other puzzles in my classroom. They are the best fidget because they keep the students engaged and thinking critically.

For the price, you really cannot go wrong. It's a good cube, and it works well as a starter. I tried modding it to make corner cuts more smooth, which worked quite well! Upon reassembly, however, the screws stripped very easily. This, unfortunately, made the cube unusable as the entire cube would fall apart every time I did a fast algorithm. If you are new to the 2x2 speed cubing realm, it's a great budget option to start out. Just don't take it apart as the screws can and will strip easily. My PB on this cube: 5.67. I know I'm not that great lol.

Well, I put my hands on this little fella after learning to solve 3x3, 4x4 and 5x5. So obviously this didn't offer any challenge whatsoever but the cube is still fun to solve. It is so smooth that I don't think you need to buy a corner cutting speed cube to practice. This would do just fine. (Only if you're not a competitive cuber) I once accidently disassembled it but assembling it was also fun. Buy it and try it, it may not offer a challenge but surely a lot of fun to solve.

Turns well is really fast but I would only recommend this cube for casual playing only and wouldn’t recommend for speed cubing and competitions

It's a very nice smooth cube. I like it. It's my only 2x2 and my main right now. If u r a beginner at 2x2s then probably go for it!! But. If u r a fast Turner like a speedcuber then...this cube will be locky alot! Coz it's not designed for fast turning. As it has 'square' corners and that's why cannot corner cut very well. If u want a speed cube for fast turning and better corner cutting then I will recommend not to go for this cube. Instead choose a 2x2 speedcube.Also! M not saying that this product is bad! No! Its not! M just giving u some info b4 buying this cube. Anyways Thanks for reading. That's it from my side =)

Smooth like butter. My first 2cube and could solve it in minutes using the key. Now it turns like Ferarri and I can use this do develop my speed cubing talents. The build is quite good. Good quality plastic. It is reasonably big to hold in the hands. Bigger squares than the regular 3cube. My niece dropped it from 3 feet and it opened up but then went back all well. Now I need to get more of these cubes of all dimensions.
