This moves a lot of air
I bought this a few years ago when I was siding my house and never got it installed. Finally put it in and couldn't be happier. It has a regular three prong plug, which we put in an outlet in the attic. If this one fails 4 screws and a new one and I'm running again. We put in rubber washers in between the fan and the studs. Really keeps the vibration and noise down. Much quieter than my old one. You can still hear it, but very acceptable. This thing moves air. My house is 4-6 degrees cooler just by the amount of hot air getting pulled out of the attic. I'm sure it will help on the electric cooling bill. Well worth the money. Would buy again.

Very good attic fan
I replaced a hard-wired attic fan that kept dying after only a couple years. I'm sure if I went through all the effort to get up into the attic, take the motor out, clean and lubricate it and re-install it each year it might last longer, but that's not a fun job and requires dealing with electrical hard-wiring which most people have no business doing. This fan comes with an amazing warranty and generally seems much more high quality than the other one. Best of all, it's not hard-wired so if I need to I actually CAN take it out and maintain it without messing with electrical wiring which can be a liability, or very expensive to hire an electrician for each year.If it lasts the 15 years that it's warranted for, it's a steal even at what seems like a higher price than its competitors. The sound is noticeable when it kicks on, but just a dull hum that you forget about pretty quickly. I bought some small insulating pads to put between any parts that might touch the wall, and I think that likely helped a lot with the noise. Aside from some screws, that was the only thing I had to purchase separate from the fan.

Moves a great amount of air and cools the attic...However, its loud.
I've attached photos of the before and after attic temperatures, using this gable fan. One was taken the day before install, and one the day after. Both days had highs in the high 80's in Central Florida. The installation was very easy. You simply plug the fan into an outlet. It came with about 20 ft of cord, which was more than enough for me.Post installation, the attic was much cooler, and our A/C use definitely went down slightly (monitored our Nest usage). The fan uses 250 watts, so it's still to be seen whether it will save us enough A/C use to outweigh the energy use. However, I'm betting it'll be slightly better. The only thing that I don't like about the fan is the amount of noise. Even following the noise reduction techniques laid out in the install manual, it can still be heard through 2 ft of blown insulation, in the rooms below. It's a low humming fan noise, so it's not too intrusive, just noticeable.Overall, it gets 4 stars for ease of installation, and definitely performing above the competition for attic air flow/cooling. One star was deducted for noise.

Make your gable fun more energy efficent
Installation was fine and I actually enjoyed sweating it out in the attic in the middle of summer. The QuietCool AFG Pro 3.0 is a very well constructed unit. Nothing was skimped on and I do feel better buying an appliance product that is designed, built and made in the USA. To install, I purchased a piece of plywood and a couple of 2x4s. I carefully cut a circle by positioning the unit onto the plywood while considering top and bottom, traced a circle and cut it out with a jig saw. Next I mounted the plywood to a square/rectangle I constructed from the 2x4s to match the measurements of the gable area. I have gables at both ends of the house and mounted the fan on the side away from the prevailing wind, e.g. wind goes through empty window and out of gable fan window. I mounted that entire piece (cut plywood with 2x4s) to the gable using rubber washers and than I mounted the fan using rubber washers again. It made for a very solid "mounting plate" to the gable with a bit of vibration protection. I hear the fan when it's on but it is relatively quite. I live in a smaller home and you can pretty much hear everything. In a larger and better constructed home, I'm sure it won't be a bother unless it's directly above your bed or something.Next, I did the electric. The unit comes with a plug and requires no special wiring. In my attic I had only a light bulb outlet which I converted to a regular 2 prong outlet. VERY IMPORTANT: I then plugged the unit into a "smart outlet" with a timer that I can set and control from my phone. I set the temp (I'm in Maryland and it can be very hot and humid in July and August) at 110. For the next two days it ran pretty much full time with 90+ temps outside. I've read that gable fans can actually add to energy costs and many professionals don't recommend them so I used the timing feature on the smart outlet - now it runs every half hour, for half an hour and only during the hottest parts of the day. Of course I can override or change that setting anytime with the smart outlet. I also reviewed settings on my smart thermostat and increased temp setting by 1 degree and removed the setting to run the heat-pump fan periodically. So far so good and my weekly BGE utility report shows reductions in usage and costs despite the same hot weather. Bottom line, if it runs all the time, that's obviously not very energy efficient no matter the temperature. By using a "smart outlet" with timer settings, it helps to reduce the run time without having to change the temperature setting on the unit and ultimately still achieve the goal of removing hot and humid air from the attic.

Powerful and nice add-on
Alright, it has been a pretty easy install even with the thermostat bypass that I’ve added to it. The fan is powerful and “quiet” for a fan. The thermostat bypass that I’ve install in parallel with the thermostat is to be able to control the high speed during the day on a schedule and low speed at night to suck up the fresh air from the night in the attic during summer months. I’m using a TP-link power strip with it to monitor the energy and to control the schedules as each plugs can be controlled separately. So far, it makes a huge difference in the comfort of our house in So. California.

Very Noisy, check the model carefully as the ad shows photos and has details for different models.
Very confusing ad, wrong photo and literature for several different models.Efficient big fan but it is not quite. Not very neighbour friendly
