There is no latch, the outside cover simply lifts off to empty

Q: Is the bin a single bin or double? Some pictures show 2 bins or a separator and some show 1 single bin.

It's kind of 2 "bins". The outside light gray cover lifts off the ins8de container. Then the inside black container is affixed to the bottom. So only the outside comes off. I love this trash can, sleek, slender & super convenient. I use small plastic garbage bags, which are no way seen on the outside whatsoever, to help keep it clean.
