Weber 65188 Tuck Away Lid Holder for The 22.5" Performer Grill

I feel as if I have a new grill. I love that it parks the lid 90 degrees and "out of the way". The original lid holder blocked a large part of the grill and made that part almost unusable. I made a hook to hang the lid on when I needed full access to the grill. After installing this lid holder, I no longer need the homemake hook.Installation was easy. The most difficult part was removing the original lid holder.My only complaint, (and as reputable as Weber is), I think they should have realized their mistake with the design of the original lid holder and offer this as a replacement, or at least at a cheaper price.However, I highly recommend this upgrade.

This is the newer lid bail that is standard on the newer Weber Performer grills. It holds the lid in a vertical position, as opposed to the 75 degree angle of the older style bail. This seemingly small difference allows the use of the lid bail while the rotisserie ring is installed. I installed this lid bail on my Master-Touch and it works perfectly. No more setting the lid on the ground when making rotisserie chicken.

I recently refurbished a 20 year old Performer my dad gave me. It was my first real grill and I’ve cooked on it for 15 years. I love it because it’s awesome and has sentimental value so instead of just getting a new grill I bought a Master Touch kettle and installed some kettle brackets I bought off BBQsmokermods.com . (The kettle swap was not too difficult, I did learn some lessons I will share after the review.)For those who are looking into this lid holder this IS the model that allows the lid to open a full 90°. The lid holder the Master Touch came with didn’t.Lessons I learned with my conversion...1) You will need an angle grinder to trim the bolts otherwise it makes it difficult to put in the grate. Definitely something you don’t want to fiddle with when you have a bed of hot coals on the cooking grate!2) If you do cut the bolts while they are installed, protect the enamel coating inside of the kettle from the flying hot magma ripping off the bolt/screw.3) My performer had just enough space to keep the nuts out of the cooking area by having the flatter phillips head on the inside and having the nuts on the outside. I found this out after I attempted to use my plancha and I couldn’t get it past the nuts.

I drilled holes between two handles 1” down and 5 1/4 from each handle installed the wire part. It’s 17 1/2 wide so that was about center. Let the back bar hang and marked the hole pushed bar to the side and drilled last hole. I did use masking tape to help mark holes and drill. At first it doesn’t seem like it will tighten up, but it does. Also, I had a King Kong grill cover. It will not fit with this. The black weber cover fits. Likes others said it works installing from scratch, just take your time and double check your measurements.

Such a tiny change in dimensions from the one that was on my older Performer kettle. But the ability to prop the lid open at a full 90* has been a MASSIVE improvement while cooking. HIGHLY recommend it.

I really like this tuck away lid holder, it is a great modification for my older Weber kettle.My Weber kettle did not have the preholes, but it was no problem drilling them and installing it.I have done several modifications on my Weber and this is one of the nicest and convenient.Better late than never do yourself a favor and get one.

Absolutely terrific. Huge upgrade over the stock Weber Master touch lid holder. Much wider opening than what was previously there. Must have for the Weber Master touch grill. Easy to install too.
