Fires the imagination
Hana (3) loves this series, they have a sense of real adventure and there is so much to fire her imagination, as well as giving a little primer in the myths and folklore of various cultures. She knows Arthur and the Golden Rope (still her favourite) word for word, whisch is pretty impressive as it is a wordy book. She incorporates parts from all three into her imaginative play.

Great. Brilliant illustration.
This is the third in the series of Brownstone books. My four year old and I love them, so ridiculously well illustrated and beautiful books. The story in this one isn’t perhaps as strong as the others in the series but it’s still an excellent book.

Another fabulously illustrated adventure
Another wonderful graphic novel adventure for younger children from the Brownstone family collection, this story follows Kai as she learns not to be so hasty seeking adventures of her own.

Beautiful book, boring story. Arthur/Marcy way better!
I'm in agreement with other reviewers. The book is beautiful but the story is not interesting and my kid didn't want to read it again. This is in contrast to the 2 previous books, Marcy / Arthur, which my kid wanted to read again and again (and still does!)

Disappointing
We loved the other two Brownstone adventures… this one, quoting the youngest reader in our family “was not very good”. Lovely illustrations, but the storyline and copy is repetitive and lacklustre. Shame, we were very much looking forward to it.

Perfect for for bold and adventure seeking children
‘Kai and the Monkey King,’ is the latest instalment in the fabulous Brownstone’s Mythical Collection, brilliantly written and sublimely illustrated by Joe Todd-Stanton. Kai and her mum Wen have been tasked to help a village to defeat a terrible monster, while Kai wants to rush in and tackle it, her mum insists they bide their time and find out more. Locked away in a library while her mum researches, Kai gets restless and when wandering the stacks discovers an ancient stroll which tells the tale of the Monkey King. Convinced that freeing the Monkey King is the key to defeating the monster, Kai sets off an a dangerous and thrilling quest to prove she has what it takes to defeat the beast all on her own. Perfect for lovers of bold and fearless adventure-seeking children, this book is absolute triumph from start to finish. Each spread is sumptuously illustrated and captures the spirit of the story magnificently. An absolute gem of a book that I know will be hugely enjoyed at school.
