The D/G Melodeon: Absolute Beginners

Great Melodeon Tutor
This is a fabulous tutor, not only for absolute beginners. It contains beginners, intermediate and advanced tunes with some essential theory, tips and advice. The clever way that most of the tunes progress one to the other is extremely helpful and logical. Complete this book and you'll be well on the way to success as a melodeon player.. By the way, it's not true that the melodeon's an easy instrument to play. Like most things, It's only easy after years of practice! But this book will certainly get you more than started.

Spot on!
Been learning the melodeon for about 7 months and borrowed someones copy of this book. So pleased at how I was getting on using it with some fab tunes.... so purchased my own. I also have Mally's Easy Peasy Tunes book which Id also recommend!

It is what it says! For absolute beginners.
As I am an absolute beginner this book is just perfect! It is a simple guide and introduction to the melodeon and has easy steps and exercises to follow. It was recommended to me by a local musician.

Doesnt Strike the Right Note for Me
I'm a pre-absolute beginner who bought the book hoping it would help me choose a suitable make and mode but it hasn't been much help. Not a mention of where best to source a melodeon, or of the relative merits of different makers and models, or indeed of new vs secondhand. As my nearest outlets appear to be 100 to 200 miles away I wanted to do my homework first. Presumably the author want to steer clear of anything potentially controversial, which is not much use to me. As a player of stringed instruments I was also surprised there is nothing about maintaining the instrument after purchase - at least I couldn't find anything, although without the benefit of an index one cannot be quite certain! Not much either in the way of illustrations or diagrams. I was also disappointed not to say baffled by the cursory treatment afforded to diatonic vs chromatic and the tantalising reference to single note button instruments, which was not followed up in the text. From other reviews I can accept that the book could be useful once you have acquired your instrument and have started to play. But the book has not helped in getting me to that happy state of affairs. In fact I'm so disenchanted I have given up my dream of becoming a melodeon player.

Great beginners' book!
This is an excellent beginner book for anyone starting to play diatonic button accordion/ melodeon. Dave Mallinson's books are all very helpful and well written.

More than a beginner's guide
The book delivered much more than it promises on the title page - I'm about half-way through it and already know more than I expected about this oddly versatile instrument.
