1 set had a bad hour hand, but overall a great bargain
In brief, I feel that the approx. $9 price tag was worth it and 1 of the 2 sets that I received worked, thus the 4 out of 5 stars. I realize that I could have requested a replacement, but the 2nd set looked nice.My not so brief review: I *love* that vendors are selling the silent version of the Youngtown clock movement. I have seen these movements on *so* many wall clocks and desk clocks. My wife recently purchased a desk clock (pictured) that came with the "loud" movement, the one that ticks with every second. As I had fixed my mom's wall clock about 4 years ago by replacing the movement, I decided to do the same (especially since my wife insists on keeping this clock in the bedroom). The movement comes in a box with 2 sets of clocks hands (hour, minute and second) as the company advertises. The instructions also instruct you on how to use the provided washers and wall hanger. The first set of hands looked exactly like the original desk clock's hands but for some reason, the hour hand would not go on. Luckily the second hands went on. I wouldn't say they went on flawlessly ... The hour hand and the minute hand can mash together when the tip of the hour hand is bent up and the tip of the minute hand is bent down. What was the result? The clock actually got completely stuck, making me worry that the movement was defective. All that I had to do was take the hands off and unbend them a bit. Once I saw that they worked for many hours, I knew that there would be no mashing. I *strongly* recommend putting the movement and clock hands on your clock to see if the hands move.In the end, I was quite happy with the results (picture of final clock included). I'm only deducting a star because the first set of hands included a hour hand that didn't quite fit. This movement relies upon the hands fitting perfectly on the various diameter shaft. Maybe the manufacturing was off on this one hand or the wrong hand got put in.
