Print Workshop: Hand-Printing Techniques and Truly Original Projects

Useful, practical, fun
I've become interested in prints because of Gelli Arts plates, and while this book isn't about Gelli plates, a lot of the techniques can be adapted. And since I needed to learn about prints and making them, I bought the book. Good thing I did. The book has fun projects that are well-defined and nicely explained. Geared for the home creative printer, the book has projects that are workable, inexpensive and do-able. I've had a lot of fun reading it and trying out the ideas. Success!

a must for new printers or other artists alike
i have been (block) printing for a little over a year now and i still consider myself a beginner. this book has great advice for purchasing products. what to get, what not to, and where/how to shop. there are project ideas and instructions in the back that are super fun and super easy!! if you are new or even just researching, i would recommend this book to you. it is well written, humorous at times, and greatly informing.i would pair this with the printmakers bible. it is much more expensive, but if you are serious then it is an investment well worth it. (and get it used ;) lol)all in all i say two thumbs up. get it ;)

A fun printmaking book.
I studied art in college, and I immediately fell in love with printmaking. I've continued doing it on my own for several years now. I'm also a high school art teacher so I thought it would be fun to be able to incorporate some of the projects in this book. I'm not sure why, but the projects weren't quite what I was expecting. They're more crafty than "fine art" but I still really like them. I had a great time making the plates, which are now hanging up in my kitchen. The projects are explained clearly and they're undeniably creative. A very fun book.

Inspiring!
In her encouraging book about home printmaking, Christine Schmidt takes a relaxed "make-do with what you have approach" - a guide to prints with the feel of handmade - she calls them "uneven, imperfect, just right." Schmidt's accompanying drawings illustrate the tools and techniques she introduces, and I liked reading her supply lists. Not complicated, but including things unfamiliar to me - a way to make a big stamp pad out of felt, something called a "rubber block" which looks a lot easier to carve than linoleum or wood (though she writes about those also). It's inspiring - makes you want to stamp or print something - and Schmidt tells you how!

fun book - distracted by grammatical errors
I kept seeing this book in shops. It looked cute, and having taken printmaking in college, I thought it would be a fun book to have. For the beginner, this book is good. I just felt like there could be more techniques, say, for image transfers, or block printing. Then I was thinking, "OK, these projects are good for jump starting ideas," and they were, until I was distracted by grammatical errors. Maybe I am uptight, but it annoys when books are loaded with grammatical errors. There is even an error on the back cover! Where was the copyeditor when this book was going through publishing?Besides the grammatical errors, the ideas are fun - though I wanted more. The publisher did a disservice to the author by not being more thorough in the editing process.

Excellent book that makes printing approachable
I admit to having a bit of fear of printing. I love it, and I have wanted to do it myself, but always convince myself it's too complicated to just do it on my own. I checked this book out of the library and knew I needed to own it. The author makes printing seem like something I can do. Maybe not "everyone" - who is "everyone" and why does "everyone" want to print? - but it gave me enough confidence to get started and I'm enjoying what I'm doing. So many books on the subject overwhelm me with details - I have tended to back away and not even give it a try. I always thought I'd like to do my own printing, and once I read Print Workshop, I found out I was right. I do love it and I plan to do a whole lot more of it. Can't speak for anyone else, but I sure would recommend it.

Absolutely Exquisite!
I knew Christine Schmidt of Yellow Owl Workshop was talented---but this book exceeded even my expectations (which were high).I love the graphics, the content, and the over-all sense of humor, whimsey, and knowledge that pours through. It will make a wonderful gift---and I have ordered 5 books alreadyAll I can say is --Martha Stewart, Watch Out!I can't wait to see more and more and more from Yellow Owl WorkshopThere seems to be no end to Christine's creativity

Good reference material
Good reference material. Directions were clear but I wish there were more photos to really get in there and show what's going on. It showed a lot of finished work as well as materials which is very helpful ~ I wanted more step by step visuals to help me which not necessarily everyone needs that. I've referred back to it during a few projects and once again was very helpful.

Fantastico!
