CURT 13240 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver

I purchased this hitch for a 2016 Hyundai Tucson Limited AWD. The instructions could have been better for sure. It is pretty simple as long as you do this: Get some WD40 to spray the rubber exhaust hanger above the exhaust tips. The lower hanger. Don't worry, it won't fall on you if you do this. Then you will need to put some pressure on the rubber hanger to slide it off of the metal rod/hanger. Once you do, the exhaust will hang down just enough for you to angle the hitch upwards towards the holes in the frame where you will bolt the bolts 2 the frame. 4 bolts for each side. You'll see in the directions that you will need to remove the plastic housings from the drivers rear & passenger rear of the underside. Really easy. Get a small tipped flat head screw driver to be able to pop the pins out. 4 each side. Once the pins are out, the plastic boxes just pull down. You are going to need a 17mm socket & a 6 inch or longer extension to be able to reach the vertical bolts. The horizontal bolts won't need an extension. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to 40lbs, that's what it calls for. Once the bolts are tight, don't forget to slide the exhaust back onto the hanger. It will slide on very easy. Once note, I applied a paint sealant to the entire hitch to help protect it. If you don't have sealant, just use whatever wax you have & put maybe 2 coats on it. I purchased a hitch cover that just slides into the receiver via pressure fit. No pin or anything to hold it in. It was $5.99 at my local auto parts store. I should have gotten the one that says Curt, but oh well. I hope this helps anyone that's worried about installing this or thinks that it may be hard. It really was pretty easy. Took me 40 minutes with everything, from set up to putting everything away. If you have ramps to drive it up on, it's going to make your job much much easier. I do not have a wiring kit for it. I don't plan on towing anything. I'm using this for my bike rack & I'm going to buy one of the baskets to put stuff in. Its not that noticeable having it installed. It doesn't stand out at all. It is a good quality hitch that I'm hoping lasts a long time. Sure beats the $450+ bucks the dealership wanted!

Perfect fit and an essential add on for my 2020 tucson! Bike racks, carriers and a dettacheable rear bumber if not in use is a nice touch.

Got this to hook up bike racks or hitch mount cargo racks for road trips. Arrived quickly. Box came beat up and hitch was sticking out the corner, but what do you expect for a heavy metal sharp object in a large empty box. No biggie. The bolts/washers/instructions were very nicely taped to the hitch itself so they wouldn't get lost or fall out of the box. Kudos for that! I remembered a few reviewers stating to lube up the exhaust hangers with WD-40 and after doing so, the two rear most hangers popped right off with minimal effort. I also remembered reviewers stating you needed to remove the trim panels under the bumper on either side, so I popped those off with ease. I did not need to jack up the vehicle. I did this in my flat driveway. The only tools I used were a flathead screwdriver for the plastic trim rivets and a 17mm socket on a 3/4in drive to tighten the hitch mount bolts. I had a piece of old carpet I laid out, laid down on my side with the trailer hitch directly under where it needed to go. I pulled the exhaust tips down a bit with my knee and slid the hitch mount up over the exhaust tips where it rested firmly in place. I secured the drivers side with one bolt, then secured all the bolts in on the passenger side. I then finished putting the remaining bolts in on the driver's side. I slipped the two exhaust hangers back in and popped plastic the trim back in place. The entire thing took less than 20 mins with minimal effort. For those with zero skills and basic tools, you can do this. Don't pay a shop $100's to install one of these things. It's really really easy.

This is my first hitch on any vehicle I have owned and I was a bit apprehensive as to the ease of installation but after watching a YT video I thought I would give it a try. It was straightforward enough to install, at least with removing the plastic panels on the left and right sides and installing the bolts and tightening everything down. (Make sure you have a torque wrench to get the correct torque.) I didn't even need to jack up the vehicle. The hard part for me since I didn't jack up the vehicle was getting leverage to remove the rubber muffler bushing. After fighting with it for too long (30 minutes) since I didn't have a pry bar that would fit under the vehicle in such a way to give me enough leverage, I figured I would put a small flat screwdriver on the front side of the bushing to cause it to slide over the lip of the metal muffler hanger thus making it easier to get the bushing off. From there it was easy to finish up the installation. The problem with the bushing is not the fault of the hitch just in getting it off so you can drop the muffler enough to get the hitch in place to install the bolts. (I couldn't find any way to force the hitch into position without dropping the muffler.) Other than that problem, the hitch installation was a 30-45 minute process without jacking up the vehicle, allowing for a first timer's taking it slow so as to not ruin any part of the vehicle or hitch. The hitch is well painted and should last quite awhile. I would purchase this again or any probably Curt hitch in the future.

I just received my Curt Mfg. hitch and it arrived on my doorstep with no box (just as you see in the first picture). The hardware was taped to the receiver and it was covered in scratches (some that went to bare metal) because this item probably weighs 40lbs and was getting tossed around in a truck for delivery. I could have lived with that but on one side of the hitch was a huge blister in the powder coat that was filled with grease (see pic). Not only was this a huge mess but when I cleaned up the flaking powder coat the metal under that greasy blister was clearly compromised. I called Curt Mfg. to ask what was going on and the customer service rep. told me that this is the first he's ever heard of a grease blister. According to him the hitches are acid dipped before powder coating and if any defects are present on the poster powder coating inspection, they are re-dipped and re-coated. No coating or dipping is done by hand so there's no room for a blob of grease to enter into the process. He also mentioned that Curt ships the hitches in boxes to Amazon but Amazon chooses to remove them from the boxes for shipment. Great idea. Scratch a perfectly good powder coat finish to save space/money in the truck. It looks like a great product but I returned this one and I'm buying it from Curt Mfg. directly.

This trailer hitch arrive within two days of ordering. I was able to install it on my 2017 Hyundai Tucson SE Plus in about an hour without any problems by myself. I did not have to lower the muffler from its hanger. I had the rear wheel of the car on the ramps so I could have about 4-5 inches of clearance. I followed the directions and also viewed a YouTube video before starting. It helps if you have another person assisting you when you raise the hitch (it is heavy). I managed by placing it on a block of 2 x 4 wood blocks and took my time starting 2 bolts on one side and doing the same with the two bolts on the other side. I then installed the other two bolts on both sides and proceeded to tighten the bolts with a wrench. Make sure that the bolt washer that are conical are installed with the convex side facing the bolt head. I had installed a similar Curt hitch on my 2013 Hyundai Tucson and did have to lower the muffler from its hanger to make it easy to install. Nice design and the hitch is pretty much hidden flush to the bumper. I use this hitch not for towing but to install a Go Rhino bumper as an extra barrier so someone rear ending me does not do extensive damage to my car's bumper and the rear hatchback door.

We got this hitch for our 2021 Hyundai Tucson. I was worried about how hard it would be to install it. I watched a couple of YouTube videos who said they could install it in under an hour. I got all of my tools lined up, laid down under the car, pushed my timer button and completed the install in 23 minutes. It looks like OEM that was made for the car. It does not change or alter the appearance of your vehicle. It is sturdy, well made and I have used it and trust it for the functions it advertises that it can do. It is SO MUCH more affordable than having a dealer put one on for you. Buy with confidence and enjoy.

The hitch went on... well, without a hitch :) The instructions were relatively clear, but the CURT produced video was even better, showing step-by-step instructions that made it a breeze. The only issue we had was removing the exhaust hanger, but that's hardly their fault and, with some trial and error, we finally found the best method. The only knock I have against it that they sent no hardware the first time. It was quickly & easily corrected by CURT, but then they sent a kit for a similar (but not the same) vehicle, so only half the bolts fit. 4 of 8 bolts was more than enough for our application (hauling a bike rack, not a trailer) and a quick stop at the hardware store for the other $2 worth of bolts was not a problem. That said, a little better quality control and my 4 stars is a 5!

Easy to install. Have to move the rubber hanger to adjust position of muffler to get it in there but no big deal. It’s a 10 min job and hides close to the bottom of bumper. Looks and works great! Nice quality product.

Good quality, easy to install, comes with instructions and bolts needed for installation. Very quick and easy. Took about 1/2 an hour on a driveway without lifting the vehicle. Would suggest lifting and supporting it up if you have the option for more space, but definitely possible to do without. Need a second person to help you hold it in place initially as well.
