These types of tools are invaluable around the house. I had one previous and that starting playing up so I went for this Kaiweets model. I think their goods are pretty decent for the price, and sit between the cheap and premium quality in general. After a few months, I can say the tool works quite well and provides a serious DIYer electrician a few more features than your basic NC Pen. Build quality seems pretty robust. The outer plastic is hard and solid and I feel it may take a drop or two but obviously don’t just throw it in a toolbox. Store it in its own box until needed. It’s a safety device after all. The sound and light alerts are absolutely clear and will get your attention, and others around you too. The sensitivity settings as well as the varying frequencies of the sounds and lights help provide more context to the nature of the current. The built-in light is an extremely thoughtful and useful design feature. With one button you can illuminate a dark space under the floorboard as you test for breaks in a wire. I love that it does auto shut off in 5 minutes as I’ve noticed I’ve forgotten to turn it off manually a few times. Batteries are included in the pack which means you can starting using the device immediately. Overall an excellent tool for a reasonable cost, with a very confident 36 month warranty so definitely worth an investment.

I bought this unit as I was replacing the faceplate on a socket in my house. I wanted to be sure that there was no voltage running through the wires (even though the master fuse was off and cut power to the whole house). When researching testers, I had heard mixed reviews about non-contact testers. Some people seem to think they are not reliable enough, but I found this tester to tick pretty much every box in my experience: 1) It has an bright LED screen showing you that the tester is on, so you can ensure that you haven't run out of battery 2) The display gives you a visual gauge of how strong the detection is, as well as emitting a sound and flashing to indicate when current is detected 3) It was sensitive enough to detect live wires behind my plasterboard in NCU mode 4) It also comes with probes which lets it act as a full multimeter to test DC Voltage, AC Voltage, Resistance, Continuity, Frequency, Capacitance, and Diode measurement, as well as Live Wire and Non-Contact phase sequence detection It does take a few seconds to start up, and can take a little bit of time to detect the voltage, but all in all it does what I need and will be super useful for other DIY and electronics projects.

Easy to read and a high accuracy of detection. With a built in torch to assist in dark areas during power outages. The unit comes with clear instructions and the build quality is excellent. A great tool that could save you from a nasty shock.

Detects voltage ok but overly sensitive on solid walls with mains wiring (indicates the whole wall as live! - not what my multimeter says). Happy for someone to explain why.
