Norpro 998 Multi Egg Slicer, White

Wires bent on first try.
It seemed like such a nice feeling tool, so I was surprised the wires bent on a mushroom. Since it has three types of cutting areas, I have been using the other two, which have worked fine with boiled eggs. Biggest problem is that bits of egg slide between the white plastic surfaces and the aluminum liner and I can find no way to get them out. Nice smooth plastic surfaces and wires do the job on slicing eggs. Not sure how hygienic it is now with dried egg bits rattling around under the lining, though.Update: That was a few months ago, when I bought 2 of these. Today I peeled and shortened a cucumber and used my second tool to make sticks and the same part of the tool bent and broke the wires.

temporarily great
I have had this slicer for about 6 months and used it mainly for eggs-which it worked great. However in the past few weeks the wires have come out and there is no way to fix it. I also agree with the other reviewer that food does get caught between the sliver top on the inside of the slicer and the white plastic top. If you could remove the silver part that hold the wires you could repair this and keep it clean. So I give this one star because it works well, but only for a while.

Practicable in thought; impractical in reality
The egg "dicer"---the cutter farthest from the hinge---must be perfectly aligned with the wires to slice through the egg without pulling the cutting wires wires out of position. The third time I tried to prepare an egg for egg salad, the wires came loose and that cutter was no longer useable.I would not even bother getting a free replacement even if I am entitled to one.

Where has this been all my life? (Update!)
My little herd loves hard boiled eggs, especially for egg salad sandwiches. Of course, there's the peeling (ugh). But chopping the crazy little things was equally time-consuming. NO MORE!! Perfect, uniform slices and dices every single time, and cleaning is a snap. (Well, if your egg ends up being closer to soft-boiled, it takes an extra few seconds to rinse.) Sure, I try not to have one-trick ponies taking up drawer and cupboard space. If you're going to make an exception, this is the gadget.---Less than 4 months later: I did love this thing, but I didn't use it every day -- or even every week! After 2-3 uses, it seemed to take more effort to get it entirely clean. Maybe there was some kind of coating on the wires that eventually washes off, IDK! I'd soap up a very soft pastry brush to get all the bits out, so okay. A few add'l uses later, a wire snaps on the chopper which is what I used most often. Okay, I can use the slicer. Two uses: Wire snaps. Are these Iron Man chickens?? Threw it out. Back to using a knife/fork combo to make my egg salad again.

Broken in under 5 month's
I was extremely excited to get this egg slicer. I use the smallest setting to make egg salad all the time and it seemed to be a sturdy product. I finally, for the first time, wanted to use the slicer (back left). It cut well. The second time I used it, it got stuck when I closed it and when it opened, the wires loosened and started to come apart on one side. Now that part is entirely useless! I don't use the last section at all. I've had this for only 4 1/2 months. It should not break so fast! Now I have to buy a whole new one, and I shouldn't have to!

3ways to cut hard boiled eggs
My old egg slicer didn't have the dice, and it broke because I cut pickles with it. So. I bought this one! Love it! I've used it every single day since I got it and it works perfectly. Easy to clean. I think the complainers about having a hard time cleaning it were letting it sit and the egg would harden, and stick. I wash mine immediately after use and have zero problems keeping it clean. Highly recommend.

Cheap
When I first got it, a family member was opening and closing it, seeing how it worked, the different cuts it made, and one of the cutting wires popped out. I didn't care since I wasn't planning on using that particular feature.Within the first two weeks, I was using, cut a total of three eggs, and another cutting wire popped out. The durability of it is highly questionable. I also noticed it didn't always cut all the way through, which wasn't a big deal, if it had lasted more than a couple weeks.

Bad design on the multi slicer section
I like it, but you have to be very careful with the thin wires. On the section where you can slice the egg into many pieces at once, three wires came lose and broke the second time I used it. Mind you I was using it for a beet, but the beet was smaller than an egg and very soft. Also pieces of the beet got stuck in the groves and it's hard to clean out. I also used it for an egg after it broke and the egg gets stuck too. I like it for the other slicers, but I will be very careful when using it in the future. The wires are not imbedded into the plastic. They are simply stretched back and forth on the metal and attached. Bad design... May need to revert to the old fashioned kind of slicer.

Avoid
The whole idea is great, it’s a pity the wire strings are so thin & frail that one broke and two others bent after use. You’d think they would use stronger wire, usually modern cheaply made rubbish.
