I've become so accustomed to photos that lie and cheap materials etc. Opening this up to find an entire kit of everything I could need, and the compass itself is absolutely beautifully made. My grandad was a draftsman and this tool feels like the kind of quality he used to use, and I mean that in as the highest compliment. Thank you for shattering my low expectations Mr Pen and co! :) (I got the rosegold, it's really pretty)

This is not a professional quality tool and is limited on the min/max width. It's an economical tool that does what it's supposed to do. It doesn't lock, strictly speaking, but the adjustment wheel is firm enough. It comes with 10-15 replacement leads. Comically, two of the three little vials containing lead were empty and their contents were rolling around in the little bag. One of them still had the cap on it, so I have to think the person packing it was all out of effs to give that day and just dumped the required number of parts in the bag instead of trying to fix it. Two steel tip replacements, two little tightening wheel replacements and strangely no little screw replacements. A mustache sticker and a hand-written thank you note. It's stable enough for what I need to use it for. Doesn't have as much flex as some folks have reported. But if you're looking for a tool with tight tolerances and high production value for architecture or engineering use, go spend $100 - 200+ on a different product.

This compass does the job of a compass and does it very well. They even throw in some extra lead and a little storage pouch too! But while it does its job well, it doesn’t really scream “quality” at all. A big disappointment was when I first saw it and noticed it’s painted. Not anodized or coated, it’s paint and it’s obviously paint, with small lumps and uneven spots. In my opinion it doesn’t look much like the images other than in shape, with the color not looking close at all. The other point against: the adjustment screw is not centered between the arms. If set as wide as possible this is very obvious and is likely limiting the total amount of adjustment. It’s certainly not a professional-level product but then again it’s not a professional-level price either. It’ll draw a circle or an arc, help you measure things, and even scribe some things like I have, but it won’t win any awards for build quality.

Buy this one. You'll be impressed with quality. Bonus vials of a lead, spikes and the tightening wheels, as well as a cleaning brush were also included. I have never purchased a compass with all these accessories, not even the higher priced.

I needed a better compass than the typical school kit version. I had a drafting set with good compasses but it got appropriated by a family member. But didn't want to order a complete drafting set but found this compass - just what I wanted.

Sturdy and rigid. A real tool. Not like that flimsy piece of junk my daughter was using before. Geometry makes sense to her now!

The compass fell apart at 4 inches wide and I was unable to reassemble and remain together. Also, the pencil insert screw and nut as well as the metal stylus fell out multiple times. I spent a long time trying to male this item work but gave up in frustration.

Quality product, just what was needed. Versatile to use as can have lead in both points for marking swirls etc. Great for the design work it was ordered for.

Well this is pretty thrilling! I got a wonderful compass from Mr. Pen! All the years of frustration with compasses that fall apart. Very Happy! Oh by the way I was given (in the plastic carry case) a handwritten note of Thanks! How nice :)
