Great product.. Made in the USA, and have a flange so no glue needed. Worth the slightly higher costs.
what you get is slightly different then the ones in the picture.. The ones in the picture do not have a flange on the bottom part that goes inside the gas can. These do. This is good because it keeps the plug from being able to slide, or pulled out by accident. I have read that people have had this problem, with the ones that did not have that lower flange, and had to glue theirs in place. These, you do not need any glue. I have installed 3 of these so far.. 2 in older gas cans, and one in a newer one that did not have a vent in it. The 2 that I took out, all I had to do was take a flat head screw driver, put it under the edge, and pry it up. With a little bit of force, they original ones just popped out., Then, I just pushed the new ones back on. As for the new gas can.. The instructions say to drill a 31/64" hole. I tried that and could not get it to go in very well. So I did as others have said, and I then made it slight bigger to the 1/2" size. Even at the slightly larger size, it still fit in very tight. I could not get it to go in by hand, even at the 1/2" size, so what I did was take a socket and put it over the end of the vent, and then hit the socket with a hammer a few times. After a few hits, it went in. The socket I used, I made sure that the inside was big enough to fit around the piece that has the hole in it, so that the socket sat flat close to the edge of the vent, where it was solid, and was even with the part that went inside the gas can. This was, force was directly applied to the areas that were the strongest. So far, great product, and they work and seal great. One thing to note.. While these may be a little more expensive vs the one that are much cheaper.. Do not forget.. Having that flange so that you do not have to glue anything, which will save on the hassle of messing with glue, and the price of the glue.. Don't forget.. If you glue them, and then have to replace it again in the future, think of what you are going to have to do to get that glued one off, and it cleaned up for a new one.. Plus, these are made in the USA.. Where some of the cheaper ones do not say where they are made, so most likely are made in china.. I am just guessing here as I have asked some sellers where they were made and no answer. It is well worth spending the little extra..

Improves Function of Any Bulk Fluid Container
These vent caps are relatively easy to install in any fuel can or bulk fluid container. They provide an adequate vent for air to enter the container, which in turn allows the fluid to flow unimpeded out the spout. You need a drill, drill bit and small hammer or plastic mallet to install them. I can't comment on their long-term durability, since I've only had them installed for a few months, but they seem well made. They are exactly the same as vent caps already installed in some fuel cans when you buy them. You can add them to containers that never had a vent cap or use them to replace damaged or missing caps in existing cans.

I ordered three of these vent caps. I needed to repair/upgrade two existing fuel cans. I've used the third one to provide an ether (Quick Start spray can) port just ahead of the updraft carburetor on my 1975 Ford 3000 tractor. I did not experience any difficulty installing the caps, except that, I had to upgrade to a half inch drill bit. The 31 /64th left too small a hole to insert the cap, no matter how hard I pushed! In fact, the half-inch hole was challenging enough. A larger channel lock pliers and a small block of wood allowed me to complete the install. I did not need to use extra sealant and I am not anticipating any leakage. I also did not experience any difficulty with shavings entering the fuel cans. By starting out with a very small bit and upgrading three bit -size steps at a time, the drilling curls followed the bit out without fail. The caps appear to be of substantial quality and should last a long time. – Doug

Installation was fairly simple and they do provide the venting that I was looking for, but they do not seal tight enough when closed to prevent gas from leaking if the container gets tilted in the wrong direction.
