As a long time acid reflux sufferer and a long time consumer of every acid reducing product under the sun, I can say that PrevAcid is the best of the best "for my particular problem". I stress the last part of that statement because with any medication or ANY product for that matter, individual results will vary... and no I'm not a paid actor...haha.A few years ago, I was forced by my insurance carrier to switch from the prescription version of PrevAcid to their preferred brand which was Nexium. I had excellent results "initially" from Nexium, but over time my bowel movements started becoming very very irregular, to the point of actually ending up in the ER. Since Nexium was the only medication I was taking, it was fairly evident what was causing the problem. I decided it was time to make a switch and I started taking Prilosec OTC. That product also worked well at preventing my acid reflux, but yet again my bowel movements were still not regular even with increasing my fiber intake. Thankfully for me this was right around the time when PrevAcid became available as an OTC product and I could not wait to make the switch. It was the best decision I ever made, because even though the milligrams per dose are essentially half of the prescription version it is just as effective for me and I can happily say that my bathroom routine has returned to its norm.If you're like me and you have to take an acid reducer on a regular basis then I suggest you also enroll in the Amazon "subscribe & save" renewal program. It saves me money, it's delivered right to my door, and I don't have to worry about accidentally running out of my PrevAcid at the worst possible time. It's even cheaper than buying it on sale at my local grocery store combined with a coupon, so it's a no brainer.[UPDATE - 6/6/2011]Unfortunately the subscribe & save price has sky-rocketed recently, so this is no longer the great deal that it once was. We can only hope that Amazon takes notice of how many people are canceling and skipping shipments, and they ultimately bring back the previously great prices. I have skipped several shipments myself and instead opted to buy it from my local grocery store combined with a coupon.

Inexpensive; shipped promptly.The product works well for me. It solved my acid reflux problem and my digestion is working normally.Unlike other acid suppressors the side effect of vivid dreams (nightmares for some) is minimal. I've experienced vivid dreams (the term in the medical literature) with other acid suppression medications for years. This includes Zantac, Pepcid and Prilosec. With the first two it was mild.Prilosec was the worst. After taking it for several years I began waking up in the middle of the night shaking and shivering. It took nearly an hour to settle down. I didn't associate this with the Prilosec until I started having really bad nightmares - to the point that i was afraid to go to sleep. Within a few days of going off Prilosec the problem went away.I then tried Prevacid and have had little problem since. By the way, I've found the manufacturer's over-the-counter version of Prevacid is best for me. A year or two ago there was a temporary shortage of Prevacid due to manufacturing issues and my physician prescribed the generic version of Prevacid to get me through. Within two days of taking the generic, the bad dreams began again. I have not tried the house brand versions made for Walgreens, Target, etc.I suspect the reason for the different side effects may be slight variations in manufacturing processes and / or the time release mechanism used. I've talked to other people who have had similar experiences, I but don't know of any research on the subject. Probably not enough people have reported this problem with acid-suppression drugs, perhaps because of a low incidence, or mild symptoms, or because (thanks to our stressful lives these days) bad dreams are so common that this side effect is attributed to other causes.In any case, over-the-counter Prevacid is the one for me.

I have been dealing with increasingly painful and frequent acid reflux for a while now. It honestly felt like hot lava rising in my throat every time I laid down, and sometimes even while standing up. It made my throat raw. I woke up gasping for air one night, my throat in absolute agony...that's when I realized the problem was only going to get worse, and I needed to think about fixing it somehow. Tums are all we had around the house, and they did absolutely nothing at all to relieve the heartburn. I don't have medical insurance or much money, so the doctor was out of the question. I didn't think an over-the-counter med would work, but bought Prevacid out of desperation. It said it could take up to 4 days to feel relief, but some people feel relief after one day. After only one dose, my pain was completely gone!!I'm on day 4 of the 14-day "treatment plan" (bottle instructs to only take one Prevacid pill per day, and only for two weeks at a time). These are the first four days I've had in many months without any heartburn whatsoever! While lying down, I could still feel a very slight amount of acid rising into my throat, but it wasn't painful AT ALL, it didn't bother me and I could barely feel it was even there. It felt like water, didn't hurt at all...and not nearly as frequent. I don't know what will happen after my two week treatment is done, but I'm going to keep this stuff around...acid reflux is painful and now I know that I don't have to deal with it!Note: I gave my roomate a bottle because he has severe heartburn that chokes him all night, but he had never tried Prevacid. He has had painful reflux daily for years, all day long. After one day of treatment, he is already a happy camper...no more reflux! This stuff works miracles!!
