Worked to test smoke detectors. Wanted to test smart smoke detector. Worked well, didn’t seem too toxic, no real smell. Didn’t die or get lung cancer.

It works! I found out some smoke detectors I just purchased from another seller, not here, did not go off when hit up with the smoke, but the alarm would go off it you hit the test button. I also found out a very old smoke detector I had did work, which surprised me, but some of my other hard-wired ones I had around the house tested fine, but when you hit them up with smoke they did not go off. So what is this telling you? It says you can't rely on the smoke test button. You can only rely on the smoke.

We purchased this smoke detector test spray for extra peace of mind after a close friend experienced a devastating house fire. Their smoke detectors had fresh batteries and passed the test button check, yet failed to alert them when smoke and fire started in their basement. Even after the fire, one of their bedroom detectors still tested “ok” with new batteries but did not respond to this spray—proving how important it is to properly test alarms beyond just pressing a button. The product worked as advertised, giving us confidence that our smoke detectors will respond in an actual emergency. I suppose the smoke from an extinguished candle could work for testing, but this spray is much more reliable. Plus, you don’t have to be inches away on a ladder with a smoking candle. I was able to use the spray from off to the side while standing on the floor, making it much safer and more convenient. It is a bit pricey for what it is, but considering the potential consequences of a malfunctioning smoke alarm, the cost is worth it for peace of mind. If it turns out my detectors work as the should during an actual fire I be sure to update this review from 4 to 5 stars!

Gave a short blast about 2 feet below my combo smoke/co detector & about 5 seconds later it alarmed. Highly Recommended!

Our local fire department recently upgraded its requirements for at-home testing of smoke detectors. Using the detector's "test" button is no longer seen as being sufficient for safety. So, rather than intentionally burning toast (over and over), I picked up a can of this spray. I don't know what's in it, but it reliably sets off our smoke detectors. One bit of warning -- ironically, the can's contents are flammable (according to its label). So take care in your testing to avoid ignition sources, unless you want your smoke detector(s) to have a real fire to make noise about.

A small shot sets off smoke alarm almost immediately. Great for testing alarm systems. Takes a bit for alarm to clear and reset.

works very well. Unlike burning matches and newspapers under a smoke detector is safe. A quarter of a second of pressure is more than necessary if you are using a paper or foam cup with the bottom cut off. the price is not cheap for such a small volume, but funerals cost much more. I am very pleased with the purchase and recommend it.
