Kinect Sensor with Kinect Adventures and Gunstringer Token Code (OLD MODEL)

The Kinect has been out for a while and I've been an Xbox 360 owner since the console came out. Although one of my friends was a beta tester and got a free Kinect unit for testing it, he couldn't convince me that it was worth it. Afterall, I was one of the early adopters for the Wii and nearly every game I got for it was a disappointment except for games like The Legend of Zelda and Wii Sports. Because of my bad experience w/ the Wii (and the Sony PS3 Move), I still couldn't fathom that the Kinect would provide me with an experience that was worth the price. From a pricing standpoint, it did seem cost effective (lack of additional "remotes", no need for batteries, no potential cause of the remote flying out of your hand) but still... how much better could the Kinect be? Surprisingly, much better than I had thought. I bought the Kinect primarily for my fiance because she recently had a run in with Just Dance games at her parents' home a couple months before Christmas. She claimed she loved the dance games and asked if she could have the Kinect for Christmas. I told her "maybe" and I was on the fence, but I justified buying it since it was a present to her. I figured if it sucked, I wouldn't see it as a bad purchase since it counted as one of her presents. So let me tell you that after just a week and a half of owning the Kinect, this thing is already worth the purchase and simply blows the Wii & the PS3 Move out of the water. My reasons are below... Pro #1 - The Motion Recognition: The fact that it detects multiple people, calibrates easy, and doesn't require an additional remote per person makes it a technological marvel. I like how it detects whole body movements rather than just the physical location of a "wand" like the other consoles. Because of this, it gives you a wider range of movement which in turn, allows games to be much more involved & immersive. Pro #2 - The Price: The Kinect retails for around $150 MSRP w/ 1 game but the price I got it for on Amazon (new) was just $99. That included the game bundle of Kinect Adventures and two downloadable codes for Fruit Ninja and Gunstringer. Two bonus games plus a $50 price drop? Kinect Adventures retails for $49 and Gunstringer for $39. Add the two together, you're paying $11 for Fruit Ninja and the sensor. Consider me sold. Pro #3 - The Games: Aside from the games I received in my bundle, luckily Xbox Live allows you to download a nice handful of demos. I think I got around 10 to test with to really see how the Kinect plays. Many of them were much more involved and responsive than that of the other consoles. Most importantly, they were fun. One of my favorites, despite not being a fan of the genre, is Dance Central 2 (the game I selected for my fiance). This game is actually quite fun despite the fear of looking "goofy" doing some dance moves to popular songs. I can only expect games get better with time. Pro #4 - Xbox Live Dashboard Integration - Games aside, this is probably the MOST useful feature of the Kinect. I know that the integration wasn't always this deep, as I remember several XBL updates occuring over the past year for improved Kinect functionality. I just wasn't aware of what kind of functionality they were implementing until I actually used my Kinect. The fact of the matter is, you no longer need a controller at all to navigate around the Xbox 360. Everything from playing a game to dashboard navigation to running apps, settings, etc is all voice integrated. For the past week and a half, my Xbox controller has been collecting dust. Being an ESPN 3 & Netflix user (as well as other available apps on my Xbox 360), everything can be controlled with just the simple command of "Xbox... ". Nothing is more awesome than saying "Xbox... Apps... Netflix... Next List... Play 4" and it plays your favorite movie or TV show on Netflix. Stop, Next Episode, Previous Episode, Fast Forward, Rewind... it's all there. If you were to tell me that this kind of functionality was available a year ago, I would have thought you were crazy. That's like Star Trek functionality. So I have a "voice remote" for my Kinect that costed me $99. I think the voice feature alone is worth at least $50 standalone. The Kinect is one of the best accessories you can get for the Xbox 360. If you've been waiting and are still on the fence, I suggest you just pull the trigger and buy it now. The games are fun, the technology is great and will only get better. Kudos Microsoft, you never cease to amaze me.

Before buying this product be aware that they have many errors and problems with this device. I didn't find-out until I tried to get it to work on Christmas day. All I got was error C000009. I googled this error code and only found other people with same problem. No fixes. Even the xbox message board moderators never seen this code and it was not listed in the error code section. Support said I could send it to them to fix ($80 + Shipping). I just went to Best Buy and purchased a new one and shipped back the one from Amazon. To this day there still is no fix. Also, doing research I realized that hundreds of thousands of people are having various issues. I feel like a product with such high failure rate should not be offered. Now if you do get one that works then its a decent game. I am tall so its difficult for me to play with children. However they enjoy it a lot. I still believe that the WII is still a batter option until they make it better. I hope this helps someone. Thank You!

As a long time Xbox and Wii gamer I looked at the Kinect with some trepedation based on my experience with the Wii. Was this going to be another system with terrible tracking, lame or kiddie-only games? Fortunately, Kinect definitely impresses with both its tracking and its assortment of games. Some say that Kinect can't see you well, but in my house where I use Kinect (this was the second one I purchased and we use it in two rooms) I have excellent tracking. The key is lighting and range. I made sure to turn on lights all around us, not just a lamp in front of us or above us, and made sure that the Kinect was up on top of the TV or on a shelf above the TV and moved back from the Kinect about 10 feet. When you set it up like this you will get excellent range and tracking. The only time I have trouble is when I swap out for one of my kids and Kinect has to try to find them because they are so much shorter. The only time I have face recognition trouble is when I only have a lamp on above me. Otherwise this works great. Kinect also has a great mic. Now that Xbox has gone through its big upgrade this last week, we use Kinect to search things by just speaking what we want it to look for. We also use it to control apps, like ESPN, where it can be used as a Tivo-like controller but with your voice, "Xbox pause" and "Xbox play." There has been two times when my wife and I were watching Netflix and some combination of what the actors on the screen said cause the Kinect to think we commanded it to fast forward. When we replayed that moment on the show it did it again. So something the actors said, even though it wasn't "Xbox fast forward" triggered the response. The games for Kinect are awesome. You have the kid games, which our kids love, but you also have real sport games. I loved bowling for Wii, but Kinect Sports Season One and Two are way better in the game options and tracking. Ping Pong is a great example where Kinect watches and tracks you as the game gets tougher and faster without trouble. This package comes with Fruit Ninja, which is a blast! Use your arms to slice the fruit avoiding the bombs. Two players can go at the same time. (If you didn't buy this pack but already have a Kinect, Xbox Live has a DLC of Fruit Ninja for $10.) Adventures is almost an excersize game in that it makes you use so many muscles and endurance is a major part of the games included. At the same time the games are a blast. Kinect is a game changer. It's not a wand like PS3 or Wii, works way better tracking, has voice controls and a bunch of top notch games. Perfect for Christmas or anytime. Highly recommended.

Ordered a Kinect from this seller with 3 games: Gunstringer, Fruit Ninja, & Kinect adventures. When the "box" arrived, it was made of 6 cut-out cardboard pcs that had been taped together. The Kinect box inside had obviously been opened, and the flaps had tear marks. Everything looked new, but when we attempted to install it, an error message said the Kinect couldn't calibrate, and that something must be blocking the sensor. It was on a flat surface with nothing touching it, but we moved the table runner away and tried once more. Same error message. Followed troubleshooting instructions, and the message popped up again. We reset the Kinect a total of four times, only to see the same error message....over and over and over. XBox support advised us that the Kinect was defective, and to return it to the seller. We contacted the seller and filed a claim. The seller replied that we should send it back and they would see IF it was defective. I clarified that XBox support stated that it was defective. That we followed all of the suggested installation requirements. That we are familiar with game equipment (we are typically the family members who install our friends' and families' gaming systems, and Man of the House builds and repairs computers. He's quite familiar with the components involved), and that we were specifically told by XBox support that the item should be returned. We sent the item on Tuesday via UPS and were advised that it would reach the seller on Thursday or Friday. We still have not heard from them or been refunded the $25 for shipping, or the $128 I initially paid for this item. Moral of the story? BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PURCHASE ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT ON AMAZON. PRICE CHECK IN PERSON AT LOCAL SELLERS FIRST. At least then, if the item you buy is broken, you won't have to spend more of your money to ship it back to a vendor who may or may not decide that their product is junk.

I had seen the videos on xbox live and the displays at the big box retail stores and thought it was a fun gimmick but not worth $150. A few months later my wife wanted to try it out and knowing that there were video and voice controls already integrated into the Kinect and the fact that it now comes with 3 games at $100, I figured what the heck and purchased it anyway. It ended up being better than expected. Pros: Fun and integration There is no lag in its responsiveness and the 3 games it comes with provide hours of fun. We of course purchased a few dance games and I have to say, comparing it to the same dance games we have for the Wii (Just Dance & Black Eyed Peas Experience), I think the Kinect version offers a more intuitive approach, not to mention makes it more challenging and encourages you to actually do the moves on screen as apposed to cheating the system (just shacking the wiimote and still completing the dance). It's immersiveness is most evident in the game Rise of Nightmares, it's the closest thing to virtual reality and really shows how advanced the Kinect really is. Inexpensive multiplayer and easy setup Another bonus is that originally the Kinect only offered 2 player action for the $100-$150 price which was pretty much the same cost to do on the other systems ($30-$50 for extra controllers for the Wii or PS3). Now that it supports 4 players it's the least expensive way to play at a party, no extra controllers to purchase, or batteries! Voice controls, and Kinect ID (facial recognition for auto login) work seamlessly and are quick to set up. I'd say the original set up took about 20 minutes (counting the time it took for the Kinect ID for me and my wife), after that I haven't had to calibrate it and it works perfectly. Cons: Needs 6-8 feet to play The only downfall is that you really do need a lot of room. It's best to have it mounted or resting above your tv for starters; that adds about .5 to 1 foot of space between you and the Kinect, it also makes it easier for it to "see" everything. Next make sure to measure out the minimum 6 feet for 1 player games (start the measuring tape from where you will place the Kinect). You will need 8 feet for 2 or more, otherwise it gets really cramped and you end up being very likely to hit someone. Now 6-8 feet sounds like a huge area but we live in a condo and the only thing we had to do to achieve the required room to play is move our coffee table, that's it, all other furniture was able to stay in place (our living room is 14 feet by 14.5 feet). Conclusion: Overall, if you have enough space to play it in or can just move a table to achieve the room, I'd highly recommend it. For $100 you get 3 great games, and 4 player action (granted you need an xbox as well, but the xbox bundle Xbox 360 4GB Console with Kinect is $300 which is also a great price). The only deal that comes close to that would be the Wii console bundle Wii Black Console with New Super Mario Brothers Wii and Music CD which only offers 1 game and 1 controller for $150.

Purchased the Kinnect with the Adventures disc, Gunstringer and Fruit Ninja downloads. I have the 4 GB Xbox, and unfortunately the Gunstringer game requires 3.8 GB of available hard drive space, so that wasn't happening. Fruit Ninja downloaded easily but to get the game started was frustrating beyond words. It kept sending me to the player sign-in page and then the Kinnect Sensor could not hold my hand movement long enough for the selection to be made. The Adventures disc that came with the system continues to come up as "non-readable disc" so we have been able to play that either. Luckily, I had bought other Kinnect games like Sports and Wipe-Out that my son loves playing, and which work great. We'll see what Amazon is able to do to make thing better with this purchase.

I started skeptical, thinking this was another gimmicky add-on for a console. I have always preferred the standard game-pad interface, and I have been unimpressed with the Wii. Then I fired up Kinect Adventures. The sensor moved itself to accommodate me (6'3") and my son (4' 5"), and off we went. I tried the river rapids game and found the controls so responsive that I could steer the raft simply by leaning side to side! Next up, the wall-ball game. It tracked my hands and feet perfectly, and the game is a blast! Gunstringer is even better! I know some people have had trouble with room size with the Kinect, and this is certainly an issue. Nevertheless, my coffee table is exactly 6' from the front of the TV screen, so when Kinect adventures started, I did have to move the table back about a foot to be able to be detected in the "good" range. Better yet, however, was when I moved the table forward, right up to the TV screen, and then I had more than 8' to play in. The sensor happily registered me in the "better" range, and we had no problems with the table being in front (plus, you can't accidentally kick the TV with the table there!). If you move out of range, the Kinect tries to keep you going, but flashes a warning to move back or forward. If you drift for too long, you get dropped out of the game. Fear not, however, as you simply have to move back into range, and you're back in the game. The XBOX 360 is an amazing piece of hardware, but it really isn't complete without the Kinect!

Once my wife saw the dancing games for the Kinect, she just had to have it. We have the wii and that is always good fun, but not having to hold a motion controller in your hand with the Kinect seems like a great idea. It takes a little time to get use to, and overall it's not bad but it's not perfect. I find navigating the xbox menu using the Kinect is a great idea but it's a bit troubling. It doesn't always pick up your movements and sometime it will pick up your movements half way through. So far we have only played Dance Central 2, Just Dance 3 and the games that game with it. Fruit Ninja is great fun and Gunstringer is OK but awkward to play, Kinect Adventures is also OK but more for the kids. Overall I think it's fun to play at parties and I can't wait to try the new Star Wars game coming with force powers. I hope lives up to the hype.
