Amazing monitor but....
Build Quality: The monitor stand is made out of plastic that looks and feels kinda cheap. The bezel is also made out of plastic but somehow feels better than the plastic used in the stand. Overall the build quality is good and the monitor remains steady.Screen: This monitor does not have a glossy screen. It has a matte screen which looks amazing. The colors are rich and vivid. The text is sharp and clear. I use this monitor for 1080p gaming, watching movies and some office work. It looks great. No glare.Connectivity: This has only 2 ports. A DVI-D and a VGA. In my experience, the DVI port gives better image quality than VGA. I got one of these "Importer520 Gold Plated HDMI Female to DVI-D Male Video Adapter" for less than the cost of a coffee and I connect it to any device using an HDMI cable (DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M 6 feet).the but: This is not a plug and play monitor. As soon as you plug it in, you'll see that the monitor looks hazy and blurred. You need to install drivers from the HP website. Once that is done, this is one of the best monitors out there for the price.

Does the job but set-up takes time.
I bought this to replace a 1999 vintage Samsung monitor that still works perfectly but became a little small as the content of modern webpages needs resolutions that make the content hard to read on smaller screens. All I needed was a larger screen. I have everything else. This HP is a basic VGA analog monitor. No bells and whistles. In terms of scope, this fit my needs. On the plus side, the assembly is very easy. Two parts of the base snap together and that into the monitor frame. No tools required. It's sturdy. On the minus side, the power connection is a real sloppy fit and comes loose very easily. Touching the monitor will cause the power to flicker on and off. This is a common problem, not only with this monitor, but power tools made in China. They shave a few milligrams of metal off the prongs to save money and by doing so create a problem for the user. The connection needs to be held together with tape or something to keep it from coming apart in use. Shouldn't have to be doing that! Now it's on. My first impression was this thing's going back. The default settings are the worst you can imagine. The display is all washed out, colors way off, images distorted. All monitors need individual touch up on settings. I'm not talking touch up here. I had to make major adjustments to the screen resolution, brightness, contrast, color balance (RGB) and everything else. One very important adjustment. The "dynamic contrast ratio" has to be turned "on" to get a quality display. Using the default setting ("off"), it's lousy. If you change other settings, it will automatically turn itself "off" so you have to go back and set it "on" again which is an annoyance. "Fill to aspect ratio" has to be selected to prevent it from automatically re-sizing and distorting everything to 1920x1080. HP claims that size is the optimum for this monitor but I disagree with that. A 23" screen goes with 1024x728 and proximity. The size of text becomes microscopic at 1920. And, nearly all PC software and content is based on a 4:3 display ratio. 16:9 is only used in some movies and the fill to aspect handles those without messing up everything else. The monitor has adjustments for everything I mentioned. Unfortunately, there are no instructions of any kind! How hard is it to include a simple instruction file explaining how to make adjustments? The monitor comes with a CD that has the driver files but no help file. How do you install the drivers? You have to figure it out. There's also a little print booklet that's nothing but disclaimers. Not only useless, but entirely in Spanish. If they're including a CD and print booklet, put something useful in them! For Oldies like me who've been around since the first PC, pushing all the buttons, understanding the terminology, figuring it out and changing settings by trial is time consuming but gets me there. Some things, like the dynamic contrast ratio, I learned about from reading other reviews. A novice would definitely need some help.If you can manage to get through all the set-up changes, you'll probably be satisfied in the end. The monitor hardware (except the power plug) seems to be fine and does the job. The deficiencies I mention could be fixed so easily, there's no reason why any of them should be there to begin with. That knocked rating points off my review. Otherwise, I would have given it a star higher.

Excellent monitor. It looks modern and sophisticated
Excellent monitor. It looks modern and sophisticated. The picture quality is excellent and the size of the screen is big and very convenient too...sometimes I use it as a TV. Great price as well, highly recommend it

Satisfaction not Guaranteed
This is the description of the item "Great working conditions. It only has some minor scratches and wear. It comes with power cord but no other accessories. Ships in 1-2 business days. Satisfaction Guaranteed!!!" I experienced the worst customer service and am still not satisfied. I wish I would have returned the monitor instead of trying to work with the company.

Excellent monitor!
This monitor for the price is incredible. It does not have speakers or a webcam but I actually like my functions separated (i.e. a speaker SYSTEM does a much better job than any in-monitor speakers). Thus, you are paying for a big screen with a crystal clear, vibrant image and nothing else.

Nice monitor for the money
This monitor works great for my purpose...which is to duplicate my desktop on a wide display primarily for viewing. I use it to extend my laptop desktop. The color palate it much richer than the display on my HP laptop...and obviously larger for easier viewing online video content. Wouldn't recommend you use it as a primary monitor for close viewing as the sharpness is good, but not great.

Hard to change settings
The settings are hard to change and can not get the washed out picture to clear up do to the fact that settings can't be changed. It would have been nice if factory supplied some note's as to making changes. Am going to try and reset settings one more time and if they don't work it will be sent back.

Love the bigger screen!
I am NOT computer savvy -- I use my computer for emails, shopping, and the occasional Jewel Quest game. This HP screen is wonderful. I bought it because my 7-year old Samsung bit the dust. Amazon was AMAZING -- it arrived within 24 hours after I ordered it.My beef is with HP. They included a VGA cable, when it needs a DVI cable -- which, after going to three stores, I paid almost $38.00 for. (My HP Pavilion is only 9 months old -- and if you purchase a computer from HP -- BUY the 3 year warranty! That purchase took HP three times to send me a Pavilion that actually worked.) Spent almost three hours, on the phone, with customer service, getting tossed between "Home" and "Commercial", to be told that this is a "Commercial Monitor", as opposed to a "Home" monitor. (All I wanted was a larger monitor -- who cares if it is commercial or home?) The fourth person told me that my new desktop computer was NOT compatible with the new monitor, because the monitor was Hi-Def. REALLY!It finally dawned on me to call me "Computer Guy". He tells me to just go out and buy a DVI (Non-HiDef) cable. God Bless him. Hooked it up and as you can see, I am up and running.Lessons learned: Call the trusted computer guy first!
