I like it but returned it
I loved how much I could put in this but I decided to order their Tortuga Outbreaker 35L instead since we are going to Ireland and Scotland. I just got it in and so now I have tested both. I packed them both and put it on and adjusted all the straps and walked around and did household things while I kept it on. This Setout was a more comfortable fit even though it was bigger and more full. I wish their 35L were still available. The one I now have is a good size for the smaller airlines, but I am not sure I will use all of the organizing that it offers which also adds to the cost and weight. I tried to watch all the tutorials but the straps still dig into my breasts and it sits a little uncomfortably on my lower back so I need to keep playing with it. I’m not sure if I will end up keeping it or not since it’s $299… I even considered rebuying this one again and trying to load less so I don’t get charged on my flights for a bag outside their parameters.

Bee’s knees!
This is an amazing bag. Pockets everywhere. Light. Fits in overhead in planes, trains. Took it to Europe for 10 day trip. One bag. I am not a light traveler and worked beautifully. No big bulky bag to roll around. Easy for weekend trips too. Excellent quality of workmanship. Arrived promptly. I love this bag so much, when my Dog chewed the strap I literally cried then immediately purchased a replacement. Highly, highly recommend.

Highly recommend
I use this backpack for all my traveling! You can fit so much, and for most airlines this can count as a carry on

Lightweight, spacious bag
This backpack is clearly very well made. It is light considering the harness system. I needed a little more space so I returned for the 45L. I like that the backpack straps can be tucked away, the chest strap and load lifters as well as the hip belt. Some feel that it is overkill for a bag of this size but every bit helps when you are hauling a filled bag across airports and cities. I also appreciate the suitcase style opening along the longer side of the bag as opposed to a clamshell opening as I feel the clamshell opening makes the bag disproportionately long and heavy on one side when packing or digging around for stuff. I also like the fact that the laptop compartment does not open up all the way clam shell style as I have had one open up and drop my laptop out though the zippers on this bag are sturdy enough that it probably wouldn’t do that and again clamshell takes up a lot of space. Also, TSA approved lay flat doesn’t exist. I fly frequently and am always asked to take my laptop out to put it into a bin away from other items and this happens without a doubt in smaller airports around the world.I’ve used the bag once, it fits into the overhead bin on a domestic plane packed full but I am not sure how it would do on smaller planes.Somethings I would change are the fabric, it feels like it would get caught on something sharp and just doesn’t provide as much confidence as a coated fabric. I am not gentlewith my bags and neither are handlers should the bag have to be checked in or thrown under a bus so this is important to me especially at this price point. Also, the bag dimensions fully packed are misleading. This pretty much is the equivalent of max carry on size when packed fully which is not a major issue on this size but on the 45, the bag depth packed fully in the front and large portion become roughly 12-14 inches. Approx .5-1inch goes to the back padding and straps which are very comfortable but a tad overkill. Would pare down padding a bit on both.Lastly, while the compression straps contribute to a clean appearance, they are pretty useless as they barely compress being only on the sides. If they could go across the front of the bag, they would be way more effective and I am sure there is a creative way to stow them when not in use to maintain the clean look.

So comfortable to carry even when way overpacked!
I bought this for a three week trip to Guatemala and went completely nuts buying up the beautiful textiles there. By the time I left, I had acquired six table runners, three table cloths, a shawl, and several fabric bags, all of which I managed to cram into the Setout, along with all of my clothes, shoes,. and toiletries. Even after I had doubled its contents and crammed it so full I couldn't slip my hand into the outer pockets, it zipped with very little trouble. After I adjusted the straps, it was surprisingly easy to carry down a steep hill to the dock and then through three airports. I feel about my Setout the same way I feel about my iPhone. This is a gorgeous thing to own and use.

Backpack strap broke second use
Purchased for a trip to NYC. Love the many compartments—great for laptop and travel docs, etc. Worked as a carryon. Unfortunately, the second time I traveled with this backpack, one of the straps completely broke in the middle of the airport. I was able to make it work, but I’m afraid to use the bag again. A lot of money for a bag you can only use once. Disappointed.

Amazing bag!
I used this as a carryon for my 14 month old daughter and I for a weekend trip. It was perfect for the airport and plane. I’m so happy- I absolutely love it!

Great materials
Feels super durable and sturdy. Actually comfortable to carry if you tighten the straps well. The only cons are: it has little structure, if you don't use packing cubes the shape will look funny. The second very related one is, if you pull the top straps it takes on a weird shape.
