RCSZ-Wave Communicating Thermostat (001-01773) by RCS Technology

If you read everything online it says this has the best insides and is great with ADT Pulse, just the interface and looks of it is pretty basic and not very "design" forward. I thought I ordered the battery one, was bummed when I opened, however learned quickly my current wires did have a power (c) wire and I was able to use it. What nobody can answer is this:This is the recommended device for ADT Pulse. However what I also was not told was that you have to have these devices within in "inches of your Z wave controller." That controller for ADT Pulse is your alarm gateway, which is probably stowed in some closet in your house and attached quite well to the wall. So I called ADT and said "if you don't have a battery powered thermostat that I can walk to the closet to pair it, what am I supposed to do?" They didn't have an answer. I lucked out because it turned out this thermostat's Z waves were strong enough that it picked up the gateway that's around the corner and in total about 12 feet away.Thermostat itself has some great options inside it and while it looks simple, it's been operating great, and has allowed for some customization and controlling of the system. And now being able to control through ADT Pulse is really nice. It's slim profile sits on the wall much nicer than the old 3M Filtrete thermostat I had on it.Easy to use as well so if we have a guest that needs to control it it's easy to figure out.One option on here I didn't even realize was good because my old one didn't have it, was the cycling option. This unit, doesn't allow it to turn off and on and off and on without waiting a set amount of time. This prevents damage to the HVAC system, didn't know I needed it but glad I do now!Directions were clear, almost seemed to concise, but the way they had it that was on the wall and working in minutes.

This has been good so far - works just fine with my ADT system. We bought this model instead of direct from ADT because of the price. our HVAC tech didn't seem to have a problem installing, and we set it up with the security system just fine without a tech.This is perfectly fine and I've never had trouble getting it to communicate with my security system, BUT i gave two stars because it DOES NOT have 7 day programming as advertised on its own. You MUST use your security or other software system to set it up on a schedule. I would have returned it and got the cheaper model that wasn't advertised as being programmable, but there wasn't enough time to get a new one before the HVAC tech was coming to install the new unit.

The thermostat was simple to install without the need to hire a professional. Initially my ADT Pulse did not recognize the device and would not add to my network. I first checked the hub, wifi and wifi extender and found the hub was not securely plugged into the wall socket since it was plugged in upside down, and the wifi and extender showed low reception. I fixed the hub issue and relocated the wifi and extender - immediately the thermostat was recognized by ADT Pulse and within a few minutes I was able to see and control the thermostat on my iPhone and iPad. I programmed the user preferences at the thermostat and it kept that programming once connected to my ADT Pulse system (unlike a previous review). One of the best features is to be able to have heat or a/c at any point during the day based on user preferences. With traditional thermostats there is a switch to select one or the other. Where I live it is common to have a cold morning and a very warm afternoon so this feature is a benefit. It is a bit time consuming setting the user preferences since there are 4 time zones and each day is programmed separately, but to some this may be a major benefit. There are 2 other pre-programmed user preferences for energy savings. I didn't choose these but I can see their benefit as well. Overall, I am very happy with this product - especially at this price point.

Works great with my ADT Pulse System. I was able to install it myself and i'm no HVAC expert by any means. The only real issue I had was that the internal preset tempreture schedules that are set in the thermostat itself, seemed to over-ride what i had set in the Pulse System. I just did a call to RCS Technology itself and there Tech Support guy was easily able to tell what was wrong. The thermostat was in the 'run' mode, and not in the 'hold' mode. With it in Run mode, those internal schedules have priority, in Hold mode, pulse should take care of it. So far very impressed. As long as putting it in hold mode works, i'm a very happy customer.

Will only work in 5 wire applications even though some of the product description implies that it will work in 4 wire applications. I definitely won't work in 4 wire and the time it took me to figure that out cost me $40 when the product was returned. Very unfair, borders on false advertising.
