Leather gardening gloves / thorn proof gloves comparison
I own both the leather gardening gloves and the thorn proof gloves, so it might be useful to have a comparison of the two for general garden use. I have had the leather ones for about 18 months and bought the thorn proof version only a few weeks ago. I’m 5’ 11”, a very average build, and with what I would call average-size man hands. I typically take a medium-sized glove and so I bought both versions in the medium size.SIZINGThe leather gloves fit me like (pun intended) a glove, whereas the thorn proof ones are a little on the small side - not uncomfortably so but I’ll go a size up if I buy another pair.PROTECTIONThe gauntlets on the leather gloves are a few, useful, inches longer, which does make a difference when struggling with overgrowth. But the thorn proof gloves are definitely better when dealing with thorns, brambles and the like; the leather ones get punctured fairly regularly by nasty stuff whereas the thorn proof ones offer much better - if not 100% - protection. Due to their length, the gauntlets on the leather ones are better overall, although the thorn proof ones are thicker - both are nicely effective at stopping arm cuts.STRENGTHI don’t think that either version is going to last several years of medium-to-hard use. My leather ones looked tatty after only a couple of months, and some of the fingers were worn through after just one season. Although I haven’t had them in use for as long, the thorn proof ones do seem a bit tougher, which I suppose is to be expected given that they’re a bit thicker and constructed from aramid.Overall, the thorn proof gloves seem like the better buy, but the extra forearm protection of the leather ones is nice to have, especially when tearing through particularly thick growth. Neither pair is likely to last a super long time, particularly if you’re as hard on them as I am, but they’re not that expensive so you can factor that in.

Pretty good
Some spikes still got through but definitely protected hands better than thinner gloves.

Protection from thorns
These gloves are awesome. Despite the glowing reviews, I didn't expect them to be up to much. I was wrong. We had to tackle masses of brambles and stinging nettles, and these gloves were a godsend. The breathability isn't great but both times we've used them was on really hot days. I used size M and hubby used size L. I would definitely buy these again.
