Compared to Ahnu sport sandals and 6 others
In an effort to replace my worn out, beloved pair of Ahnu sports sandals, which are no longer manufactured, I recently purchased the following shoes, all in size 9M: Teva Omnium Slate Merrell Women's J034170 Choprock Shandal Hiking Shoe Merrell Women's All Out Blaze Sieve Water Shoe Merrell womens Water Shoe HYDROTREKKER LTR SHANDAL Brown Oak Women's Closed Toe Outdoor Hiking Water Shoes Sport Sandals Northside Santa Rosa Sport Sandal Teva Terra Float Active Lace Wild Dove Womens Sporty Sandal Note that I have a 2” arch to support in this review. Yes, it really measures 2”. Even the podiatrist was surprised. Okay, here’s the rundown: The most rugged, most sportlike, and least sandal-like were the Merrells. If you’re looking for stability, support, and good traction, look at Merrell. All of them ran longer and more narrow, particularly in the heel. The Choprock felt lighter and more open than the All Out Blaze or the Hydrotrekker. The Brown Oak pair felt far larger in general and wider, specifically. My feet flopped around in them. Little molding or cushioning in the footbed; but then, that’s relative to the Merrells. The Northside Santa Rosa was the most open and least sporty of them all. No molding or cushioning in the footbed. No real support. Scratchy interior. Better protection than open sandals, though. If you need to seriously lockdown your ankles, look to the Teva Omnium Slate. I liked the security, but it didn’t allow enough space in the instep for me. These took slightly more work to put on with the additional buckle. So, weigh whether you need stability or convenience more. Finally, and my favorite, the Teva Terra Float Active Lace felt immediately comfortable: soft interior; snug, but not tight; ample support; sufficient space in the instep to allow for an additional ¾ orthotic for arch support; supportive, but not clunky; plenty of breathability; more coverage (in mesh) for the forefoot than my Ahnu pair, which should help keep out debris; sufficient traction for my everyday activities. Ahnu had been an offshoot of Teva, and is now manufactured by Teva. So, it makes sense that the Tevas were a good replacement for my old Ahnus. I’m grateful I found a pair that would keep my feet comfortable.

Great water shoe
These worked great for my recent trip to Zion National Park for hiking through the Narrows. The shoe is comfortable and drains well. I did size down a half size but otherwise fit well. The shoes did take awhile to dry even though they drained well. They were comfortable to wear, even without socks but did not offer much arch support. If I were to wear them when not hiking through water I would need to add a shoe insert to provide arch support. Overall worked great for what I needed them for and I will wear them again when hiking through rivers or tubing.

This is a great shoe. I'm just disappointed that Merrell seems to have discontinued this style
This is the perfect shoe for walking and moderate hiking--light enough to wear everyday and rugged enough for rocky and wet trails. Just toss them in the wash when needed. This summer I landscaped my hilly, and in places very muddy backyard in these shoes. They held up and still look great.

Poor Wear Quality
The shoe is comfortable, but within a week (I have 3 pairs I rotate) the tread on the soles began falling off. Now, large chunks of the outsole are falling. I’ve never experienced this with any other Merrell shoe.

Best purchase
I love these shoes! I bought them to hike the Narrows in Zion. These shoes with some waterproof socks were perfect. And I didn’t have to rent shoes in Zion for $25. They also are super comfortable on a dry hike. I am so thankful I got these shoes! I love them.

High Expectations Met with Complete Disappointment
Initially, I was very excited to get these shoes. Out of the box they feel great and fit like a glove. Initial impressions walking around the neighborhood were good. Comfortable, airy, and very lightweight. The dry grip on the bottom is EXCELLENT and even better in wet/slippery conditions. The biggest downfall is the adhesive they use on the bottom to hold the sole in place. It didn't even last two days. First day, tubing trip on the Frio. Very calm waters and essentially no rocks to climb or avoid. Shoes were submersed all day though. Day two, hiking through Lost Maples state park. This is when the shoes literally started to fall apart. First mile in, pieces of the sole were peeling off and it only got worse from there. By the time I got back to switch to different shoes, they were completely destroyed. I REALLY wanted to like these shoes. It checked all the right boxes on initial impressions. I am thinking the adhesive they use is not really up to being submersed for long periods of time. Which is awful, considering this is advertised as a water/hiking shoe. I hope they fix this in the Gen II.
