Super Hits Live

This new CD from CHRISTOPHER CROSS has just been quietly released from Sony Music called SUPER HITS LIVE. It was recorded during Christopher's "Cafe Carlyle Tour" from Tokyo, Japan in 2009, so it has the stripped down acoustic jazz feel from that project. The re-arrangements of Cross' songs have been opened up for the musicians to stretch out and explore on this tour and it's fantastic. The line-up consists of Christopher Cross on acoustic guitar & vocals, Andy Ezrin on grand piano, David Mann on woodwinds, Jonathan Clark on upright bass & vocals and Dave Beyer on drums. A LIVE PERFORMANCE.A MAN WITH A GREAT RECORDING VOICE SANG AT WHAT SEEMED TO AT HALF ITS POWER.VERY VERY LOW KEY GIG.VERY DISAPPOINTING.I REALLY LIKE ALL THIS GUYS WORK.BUT NOT THIS!!!! MIKE LANCASTER

A bit of disappointment....vocals are not consistent due to either mic positioning or equipment issues....however still got the live band sound which is pretty clear and vivid. Songs selections could be better too...

2008年にリリースしたアルバム「The Cafe Carlyle Sessions」のライブ版という感じの一枚です。「The Cafe Carlyle Sessions」は往年の名曲をジャズアレンジでCHristopher自身がセルフカバーしたもので、とても新鮮な仕上がりになっています。これ以降、しばらくの間（2～3年）、ライブはジャズアレンジを基本にしたもので構成されていましたが、これは2009年に東京で録音されたライブCDです（リリースは2011年）。それでも何故か輸入盤ですが。すべての曲がJazzyな感じでの演奏で、また違ったChristopherの魅力が味わえます。JazzyなアレジのライブCDは「The Cafe Carlyle Sessions」を別にすればこれだけだと思います。ファンなら持っていたい一枚です。

もう声が出ていません。この時のライブも観に行きましたが、最近のビルボードライブにはバックボーカルの女性に唄わせる場面も多く残念です。そんな訳では以前はビルボードで3日やっていたライブも今年は1日だけのようです。このCDのライブもアコースティックライブなのでレコードの迫力は感じられません。静かに聴きたい方には良いと思います。それにしても彼が弾くギターの音色は絶品です。私は彼のギタリストとしても評価高いです。星は３つです。

日本で行われたライブを収録したアルバム。タイトルどうりライブ版ベスト・アルバムでもある。オリジナルとはまた違う、アコースティック色の強い落ち着いたアレンジが楽しめるが、もともとの魅力は損なわれておらず、ボーカル、演奏も健在。セールスや流行に必要以上に縛られないところで、のびのびと音楽活動を行い、人々に爽やかな感動を与えてくれるクリストファー・クロス。音楽界においてとても貴重な存在である。
