A PRACTICAL STEP BY STEP WAY TO MASTERING FINGERPICKING
This is not the only book I bought to learn fingerpicking over the Covid lockdown but the combination of the book and the downloaded e material of the exercises made learning much faster. I was able to select picking patterns that I wanted to learn without having to wait or cover stuff that was not relevant to me. The back up video clips and commuique are also very helpful and tell me that the authour is really committed to teaching you and committed to further mastering the guitar himself. I liked this book so much, I bought his book on strumming cos I think I will learn lots from that too. ps I would suggest that players need to have some competency in chord transition of the common major chords. but he also helps in this too. I would defo recommend this book

Great book that breaks the mould of other guitar teaching books!
I bought this book several weeks ago as a ‘returning’ guitarist after many years of not playing. I have to say that this book has a refreshing approach to learning to play guitar in comparison to the many other books I have purchased over the years, there are many very good tips that are well worth really trying to take on board in addition to the actual graded exercises that gradually build and increase your confidence. I’m only a third of the way through the book at the moment, but I have incorporated several of the exercises into my practice routine and am certainly seeing some results. I’m trying not to make the same mistakes from my past attempts to learn guitar and being thorough so don’t want to rush through to the end of this book too fast! I thought this book was so good that I also bought a copy for my nephew who has also recently returned to guitar, he is pretty happy with it too.

Great for Beginners and Intermediate Guitarists
I like Dan's work and have bought many of his books/courses. I like fingerstyle 101 a lot because it progresses naturally from simple to complex. I have some experience but typically for a self-taught guitarist there are holes in my playing. This book is great for plugging some of those gaps. I can skip the bits that I am confident in and just focus on where I need the support. And this book is great for getting me to those points. Dan's support is great. I've emailed him a couple of times and I am on his email list. He sends out great emails to the list that are helpful, motivational and keep you focused. He also responds to questions and queries whenever I have had the occasion to ask him stuff. And the support material for the book with downloads of play along at slow and normal speed are fantastic.

Fingerpicking
Excellent for improving at fingerpicking in an easy to follow way. Very satisfying to play the harder pieces with relative ease, however I think maybe this book is more aimed at beginners and therefore as a slightly more advanced player it felt a bit tame. Would recommend for a starting place.

Dan Thorpe has me successfully fingerpicking! Who wants to strum John Prine or Townes Van Zandt. Dan will have you fingerpicking with great guidance, instruction, and accompanying videos. While he targets an older audience, anyone can benefit from this amazing book.
