Kevin Bacon was terrific as the taunted FBI agent ut the real gem ...
Get ready for a psychological ride of thrills, twists turns and a mistrust of everyone. I was hooked after episode 4 and watched the full 3 series in 2 weeks.Kevin Bacon was terrific as the taunted FBI agent ut the real gem in this series is James Purefoy. He plays the role of John Carroll with a chilling accuracy.Ignore the jibes about how it portrays the FBI as idiots, yes there are very far fetched scenarios at times but that aside this is an excellent series and I think there will be a season 4.. Put your mind into "fiction mode" and enjoy this for what it is.

Not too be missed
I have never left a review before but after reading the most recent reviews for this programme I had to write my own. I was in two minds wether to watch this as it had so many bad reviews but the rating was high. I decided to watch it and make up my own mind. I was hooked from the beginning.Instead of letting other people make your mind up just give it a chance. I do not think you will be dissapointed. The story line is good, actioned packed, gripping, so many good actors.

Compelling but rediculous and far too long.
When the American TV companies want a good baddy they often pick a Brit actor - this time its James Purefoy and a good job he makes of it too. My wife and I watched the first season over the course of a week and found it compelling but we won't bother with series two or three because, basically the plot gets more and more rediculous - even though you can argue that Jonestown, Waco and Charles Manson were unbelievable events . And if you know how the first season ended then the idea of it continuing is even more rediculous. The problem with this programme is that every episode has around three or so gruesome killings, sometimes more, and it is just more and more of the same. And you have seen it all before anyway. The killings are horrible, often gratuitous and I would not recommend that anyone with mental health issues go anywhere near this programme - it is very disturbing. Should excessively graphic violence be portrayed as entertainment? This would have been much better if it had been a six episode mini-series, with less killing but more tension. One other really good thing about though is, despite the gruesome gratuitous violence there is little or no swearing!

Addictive!!!!!
This is my first ever review but felt I must comment on this series. It is amazing!! I was totally addicted from the start and practically watched episodes back to back. Kevin bacon and James purefoy are incredible in their roles and have great chemistry together. There are twists that will make you audibly gasp and shout at the tv in disbelief. It is beautifully shot and I'm now in the middle of the second series. Brilliant.

Kevin Bacon - not so Footloose in his Fifties.
There's something oddly compelling about watching the first series of The Following, even though at times it's truly disgusting (lots of sound effects of knives squelching into bodies, lots of foul things done to those bodies before or after death) there's always a sense that our heroes are going to be fine - that you know there are more episodes to come so they must make it out again to fight another day.I've seen reviews suggesting that it's all just a way to make Kevin Bacon run around in the dark shooting people and I have to admit that they make a solid point. But squelching and bleeding aside, the concept is compelling - the idea that a man locked up as a serial killer could set up a 'following' of acolytes ready to kill (others or themselves) at a moment's notice, is chilling and even though it seems ridiculous written down like that, I'm willing to suspend disbelief in the name of entertainment.Kevin Bacon is oddly excellent. Never a particularly good looking guy in his youth, he seems to have grown into his face as he's aged and is the more interesting for not being too pretty. The FBI investigations are a mix of the "Oh wow, I had no idea they could do that" and the "How dumb do you have to be to not spot that" but that's also more interesting. I'm sure Joe Carroll could have been killed off a dozen times but then there's be no excuse for series 2 or 3.

Absolutely brilliant!
I CANNOT believe that this brilliant, gripping series has been cancelled. Especially when so many low class shows with poor acting, dreadful plots and zero production values have been kept. Come on Amazon! I cancelled Netflix because they didn't pick it up. You saved so many excellent dramas - Ripper Street being a 'prime' example if you excuse the pun, SAVE THE FOLLOWING. PLEASE!

Eine der besten Serien ...
... Die ich je gesehen habe ! Absolutes Suchtpotential! Tolle Charaktere , super storyline!
