Very versatile if you want both clipless and flats from one pedal...
I got these pedals for Christmas 2015. I wanted to ride them for a few months for giving a review. I come from riding flats on my mountain bikes and heard from everybody that clipless was the way to go. I had to give it a try, but I have watched my buddy "stop and plop" fall on his clipless often enough that I was a bit reluctant. I paired these pedal with Five Ten Impact VXI Clipless shoes. The combination of the shoes and pedals are very versatile. I wanted a pedal I could ride both clipped in, and as a flat for those sketchy technical sections where I often like to put a leg out.It took me only a couple a rides to get used to clipping in, but a bit longer to get comfortable clipping out. It's easy to unclip, so long as you anticipate when that need will arise. The problem for a new clip rider like me is sometimes if forgot, and plopped over. That's what elbow pads are for :) I have probably fallen a dozen times due to my feet being clipped in when I came to a stop, and I forgot, and leaned the wrong way. All of those incident were at low speed while coming to a stop, not while riding. I have now been riding them for 2.5 months and rarely have that problem. My recent success has been a combination of anticipating when I need to unclip, and getting my muscle memory up to snuff.I like riding these as flats when I hit the rough rocky technical sections where my bike might stop suddenly necessitating a quick foot drop (both uphill and down). At first, I had the pins so low that the center spring was so high that my shoes wouldn't touch the pins. You can ride like this, but it doesn't inspire confidence because the center clip does roll, and although I rarely slipped, it felt like I could at all times. Next, I raised the pins to be taller than the center spring. They rode great as flats, but it was hard to clip in, and really hard to twist out because the pins dug into my shoes too much. I finally hit the sweet spot. I lowered the pins to be just below the center spring in terms of height. Perfect, I can clip in and out at will and ride them like flats when I felt it was necessary.I really do love being clipped in when I am climbing smooth trails or fire roads. It makes a big difference. I have tried regular flats a couple times since, and miss the clippless efficiency. I love being able to switch on the fly to ride these pedals like flats when it gets a bit rough. With the pins adjusted right, they grip very well. I cant emphasize enough how important it is to get the correct shoes if you plan to ride them both clipless and flats. The Five Ten VXI is an amazing combo with these pedals.People who are used to SPD clipless should know there is no tension adjustment on these pedals. You can set the cleats to disengage at either 15 or 20 degrees, that's it. With the pins at the right height, 15 is fine. My local trails are very rocky and technical, otherwise I wouldn't sound like such a sissy about getting my feet out. On the smooth stuff, I have no worries at all.If you are looking for a versatile pedal to use as both clipless and a flat, this has to be one of the best on the market. They are still my everyday pedals. Ride on...

Very safe and secure when needing to be clipped out.
I love these; I bought them for my gravel bike. I have the same on my mountain bike and my peloton. They hold my feet securely when I’m clipped out and allows good security when starting up from stopped, before clipping in.

Solid Confidence Inspiring Pedals
I have been using clipless pedals since 1995 and they have been Shimano SPDs. In 2022 I had back surgery and I noticed that my left leg is not as coordinated as it used to be. I was having trouble clipping my left foot in, and felt that if I could get a set of pedals that the area of clipping in was larger, I could stay with clippless pedals. Well the Crankbrothers did the trick. I have no issue clipping my left foot in or out and am back to riding the normal trails I used to ride.I do use the 0 degree float and 10 degree release cleat (the bronze ones) but have not issues clipping in or out now. I was worried that I would not be able to ride like I used to, but these pedals did the trick. And, yes I tried flats and I have the scars to prove it.

Great Mountain Bike Pedal
I needed a hybrid mountain bike pedal for my new enduro bike. Since I have been using CrankBrother cleats, I had few options. I have been riding with the Crankbrother Candy pedals for a couple of year and I do like them a lot but I wanted a pedal with more platform for my enduro bike since I had planned on entering some enduro races with the bike. These pedals have enough grip on my clipless shoes so when I can't clip in, my feet don't pop off. Overall I loves these pedals and will be replacing my Candy pedals on my trail bike!

Poor quality
UPDATE: After about 5 months of back and forth between crank brother's customer service and their warranty dept, they finally sent me a new pair of pedals. They told me nothing was wrong with the pair I sent them, however, the new ones they sent me work much better.Got these after liking my brother's candys he has. Put them on my bike and instantly had alot of trouble clipping in. Often the pedals won't clip in for several minutes of fooling around with them. Noticed the inner spindle is very stiff and hard to turn compared to my brothers pedals. Contacted crank bros and they said there is no way to adjust the tention of the inner spindle. As of now I haven't heard anything from them in several weeks and now have pedals that seem to be defective. For reference, my shoe setup works fine with my brother's pedals just not mine and I have tried all there trouble shooting suggestions online. At this point disappointed in the quality and customer service which is a pitty as we have over 5 bikes with these pedals.Update: brought them to a bike shop, the bike tech took them apart and said that the fitting where the inner spindle and pedal fit together is too tight and won't allow for proper engagement with cleats. Still have not heard anything from crank brother's.

Love Crankbrothers - now upgraded
I have ridden the CB Candy 7 pedals for years and needed more surface area to help my knees. Bought 2 pairs of the Mallet Trail pedals for my Ti Gravel and my Revel Ranger. What a difference in comfort and control. My feet do not get hot spots anymore and it there is more area for my shoes to rest in different positions for maneuvering. 3rd phot shows the difference of the pedal sizes. My favorite upgrade in years of riding.

Great pedals
Mounted these on my trek fuel ex7 gen 5. I’m very happy with my decision on these. Lots of support while securing my foot. I have no fear that I won’t be able to get my foot out. Even on a tip over.Crank brothers must run some nice bearings.
