First of all, I decided to purge any air out of the system introduced in shipping for any problems later. For instance, my release valve sets at 10’o clock closed position, I loosen it 3 turns ccw (back at 10’o clock). Then pumped it 20x to make sure there’s no air in the system, after that tighten the release valve and you should be good to go. Note that this jack does not recede back by itself without weight on it. I just turn mine 3x ccw and it was easy enough to push the pistons down by hand. Warning don’t back out the release valve too much or you’ll have hydraulic fluid all over your floor. 3 turns were enough for mine. The jack itself is 16 lbs, with the 3-section handle total is 17.4 lbs The overall max height is 24”, the first section that comes up without lifting any weight is the smaller diameter and that took 64 pumps to raise 7”. Then after that the larger diameter will raise it another 6.5” which takes additional 133 pumps. I don’t mind the number of pumps, just here for reference; I need the capability of lifting it very high, which this jack does! When lifting a car, the smaller diameter ram comes up first and when it hits restriction then the greater diameter takes over to do the initial lifting. After the bigger diameter ram reaches limit, the smaller ram takes over and lift the car to the 24” limit.

This works great for our 2020 Lincoln Aviator. The OEM jack actually BROKE when using it! Luckily no damage to the vehicle. This has a wider base and the 24" lift is enough to get the wheels off the ground without needing additional blocks under it. We are just keeping it in the back with the spare tire. One nit-picky thing, though, is that it doesn't fully retract on its own when lowering. So you have to kind of yank it out from under the car and then manually push down on it to get it collapse all the way. But that's common among these hydraulic jacks.

the stats on the 5 ton jack are not accurate. Its just over an inch taller that is says Its nearly 10 inches tall at the minimum. Its heavy and solid and the 3 part handle is nice. Lifts like a breeze and quickly. Its $125 so more than double the cost of other jacks, but you do get what you pay for. $125 quality, vs some $50 junk jack. I would recommend it if you need a good solid jack reliable jack but remember its actual height is taller than stated. 4 Starts because the measurements are not accurate.

12/14/2024 UPDATE: Used jack one time, lightly. Walked into my garage the other day and the jack was sitting in a POOL OF OIL! Took a while to figure out where the leak is coming from, but can see that oil is leaking from the threaded portion of where the actuating cylinder (i.e., the part you cycle to extend the jack) is threaded into the jack body. It is about a 1/2" pipe thread near the base of the jack. I am hoping the manuafacturer will see this review and contact me to make it right. Not happy about this and I also have purchased a 5-ton model in the meantime. Original: The versatility of this jack is fantastic! Seems to operate smoothly and be a quality item. "Double Ram" is not really accurate, but that's the world we live in. It is actually a "2-Stage Ram" since one ram is encased inside another. No big deal.... semantics. In operation the larger ram extends first due to laws of physics. This means that until the larger ram is fully extended each pump of the handle results in less lift than when the smaller diameter ram starts lifting. ALL brands of this design operate identically. Alas, this fact also means that once the smaller diameter ram starts lifting it also requires more force per stroke but greater lift per stroke. Get it? Common sense. For me, I have learned to purchase a jack with at least twice (i.e., > double) the capacity than what I actually plan on using it for. Takes more strokes and time, but less force required per stroke. Tradeoffs. Would have rated 5 stars if the price were <$100.
