Principles of Virology, Multi-Volume (ASM Books) [Flint, Jane, Racaniello, Vincent R., Rall, Glenn F., Hatziioannou, Theodora, Skalka, Anna Marie] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Principles of Virology, Multi-Volume (ASM Books) Review: Want to learn about viruses *for real*? Buy this book! - I got interested in virology during the pandemic and tuned into a podcast called This Week in Virology. The host is one of the authors of this textbook. Though dense and complicated, the writing is clear. It helps to have some knowledge of biochemisty (which I don't), but that's not a big deal given online courses and guides. I highly recommend this book to ANYONE who wants a solid, scientific introduction to virology. What you learn will be applicable to any of the diseases in the news these days. Review: Fabulous - Well written, well organized, large pages with clear illustrations. Virology, immunology, biochemistry, and molecular biology are all joined at the hip and this text does a superior job of blending the topics. While there is an appropriate review of historic experiments and techniques, the authors put more emphasis on what is current which is appropriate given the overwhelming amount of knowledge available today. The two volumes are helpful. A single volume would be inconveniently heavy.

Still the best
I’ve personally owned this series since the first edition. If there’s anything better, I haven’t seen it yet. Not the book for beginners in virology. The reason is the detail; there’s lots of it and if you do not have even basics of virology and immunology, the text might be daunting. Only my opinion though.

Just bought this because I am taking a virology course this year and wanted a textbook for background reading. I like Vincent Racaniello's podcasts and blog so thought I would give these textbooks a go. I have only read a few pages so far, but am impressed - it is well written in an engaging style, and is up-to-date, making reference to the latest technologies (e.g. nanopore sequencing and RNA-Seq) and to recent viral outbreaks (e.g. SARS-COV-2, Zika, Ebola). You do need some basic biology knowledge to fully understand it because some terms are used without being immediately fully explained (e.g. "seroconvert", "PCR amplification", etc.) so it's not for complete beginners, but I am am a second year Bioscience degree student and I can understand it easily. I would say this is a good book for undergraduates. The writing style and use of examples makes it an interesting read, and it covers lots of key concepts that are useful for anyone studying microbiology.

I absolutely love these books, I'd go as far as to say that these are the best books you can currently buy on the vast topic of Virology. They are so beautifully written with perfect explanations and are a must for anyone in the field.

There's no point looking for any other text book on virology. This is what you need.
