Bright idea. Note the 2 battery types.
Packaging is nice and recyclable. (Death to plastic blister packs!).The test button allows me to test the illumination light, too. That white light is bright enough for me. It’s a directional “cone”. It’s not a room light. With common 8ft ceilings, it lights up about an 8ft diameter area directly under the detector. (It wouldn’t be very good for a wall-mount situation). It’s like a small flashlight. Good enough to help find a nearby light switch. My only minor complaint is the mount’s twist direction seems backwards from the usual “righty-tighty” rule. Per the arrows on the case, you need to twist it counter-clockwise to the LEFT to INSTALL (TIGHTEN), and to the RIGHT to REMOVE it from the wall/ceiling plate. That’s the opposite of other smoke alarms I have. Opposite of most screws. Very odd.FYI, This device uses TWO 9V batteries. The hard-to-read white-on-white battery-cover text indicates the LIGHT side should ONLY use an Alkaline battery (supplied). The ALARM side can use Zinc, Alkaline or Lithium. So the supplied Zinc (red) battery should only go into the Alarm side. SEE PICS.UPDATE: FYI, after about 6 months after installation, I had one false alarm. I assume it’s due to dust accumulation, but I’m not sure. I de-dusted it with canned air, and no false alarms in the past 4 months. So I guess it’s fine.

Smoke detector that lights your way and more.
This is my pick for my entire house. One in every room. It has an emergency light to help guide your way out in an emergency. It has dual batteries that have a well designed compared to most, battery holder. Super simple installation. There's nothing I don't like. The best thing is the price! Once a year replace those batteries the life you save may be your own and remember the entire smoke detector needs to be replaced every ten years. How old are yours? Better check the date. Yeah, they actually have a date on them. I'll be back for more in ten years I hope they still make them then.

Dependable and makes me feel safe!
I have used this brand for as long as I can remember. I test them frequently and they always work great! And I also know from experience that they work when actual smoke is detected! (cooking 😬) Annnd it’s definitely loud enough!I trust this brand and I purchased this particular model just because it’s the same model (or equivalent) as my last one and it fit into the assembly that was already installed. My last one was just getting too old. It still worked, but I knew it was over 10 years old…

NOT for the severely hearing impaired
This is installed on my bedroom ceiling in hopes it will be effective in the event of fire. 85 decibels is not enough for a person WITHOUT hearing aids ON. MAYBE the strobe will wake me from a deep sleep! Four stars because it claims to be especially for the hearing impaired, but I found it lacking.

Smoke detector plus safety light.
I have only purchased these detectors since I first discovered them. They are durable and effective. More importantly, they have an associated safety light that will help guide you through a smoky environment if it is ever needed. Sadly, California has forbidden the sale of nearly all battery-replaceable smoke detectors and the ones they do allow, sealed and otherwise, have no light, or are 3-4 times the price. I get mine out of state and schedule my battery changes with the time change .. easy and safer than a simple smoke detector.

Better Than The 10 Year Version
This is a quality product, easy to install and takes batteries . The so called 10 year battery detectors do not last and then you’re replacing the whole detector. Warranty service past a few years is virtually nonexistent. I’ll stay with changing batteries once a year.

Great price but now I'm blind lol
Warning, do not look directly at the face of the fire alarm while holding it in your hand 12" from your face, when you press the test button for the 1st time... I could not see past the splotches in my eyes for about 20 minutes. But I know for sure I will have enough light to find the exit if God forbid there is ever a fire. Highly reccomend this fire alarm.
