Works great, but need more sponges
I was skeptical like others, but this tool really works. I had to mud and sand a skylight opening and after sanding didn't have hardly any dust on me. You do have to make sure you keep the sponge in contact and go slow. I'm also going to try the extra holes in the sponge trick. I also uses a backpack vacuum which connected perfectly. The one issue I have is it only comes with 2 sponges and I can't find where to buy more of those exact size (I know you can cut your own). And the description on Amazon is incorrect as it says "Can be used with any 3" x 5" sanding sponge.", the size is more like 2 3/4 by 4.

Real Dust-Free Sponge Sander - Excellent
I finally found a truly dust-free sponge sander that works great for achieving a Level 5 finish.

4 and a half stars.
Just finished using it all day on a 300sf room with ceilings. It worked flawlessly overhead, captured maybe 98% of the dust. On the walls it lost a lot of dust around the edges of the yellow cup, but still caught maybe 60 to 80%. I'm using a small 12 amp cannister vac, so it may perform better with a real shop vac. The yellow sanding cup needs a grip of some kind, even a simple flare-shape around the top edge. There are a lot of complaints about it leaving trailing scratches in the finish. That seems to happen when the sanding sponge is not kept flat against the wall. If you tip it even just slightly, the edge of the pad it will cut a groove. It requires two hands to hold the pad flat flush as you sand -- one hand as strain relief to suspend the hose, and one to work the pad. This might also help prevent the hose from cracking, as so many have reported. I drilled a couple holes in the sponge for more suction which seemed to help on the verticals.

Essential little tool
This is a must have for small to medium size remodels or repairs that require sanding of drywall compounds. I personally used this for a master closet remodel. If you’ve ever sanded drywall compound you know how much fine dust gets kicked around. If you’ve never done it before trust me you’re going to want a product like this. I picked this because I don’t have a large need for this type of tool and the size and space savings was worth it to me over the larger units with extension poles etc. I’m usually hesitant with a tool this inexpensive.. you get what you pay for.. with this you get more. Makes cleanup super simple and prevents almost ever dust particle. Even when you invert the handle (may be necessary in certain areas, depending on the project) the suction is still able to pull the dust against gravity for a dust free job. Obviously still follow normal safety with mask and glasses. I was surprised at how well the product worked for the price. Granted I had a clean vacuum and a brand new filter, but this little thing is great. The cover fits nice in the hand and allows flat even pressure. I was able to complete the project with one of the included pads so I can’t comment on the fit of replacement pads. If the compound is cured correctly the pads should last a long time.

Regular sponges have to be cut down to fit the sander. Works ok, not very convenient.

Nice tool to have as a DIYer
As a DIYer the one thing I personally hate with any project is the CLEANUP. So as a father of 3 kids - as you can expect - walls become an issue in the home. You know.. magical dents, plumbing disasters, running ethernet cable or romex.. all results in holes in the drywall that require patching which sanding is a important step.. Sanding that dusts a whole furnished room.. which results in extra additional cleanup and in some cases worse than the patch project itself. So this uses the same sanding sponges I personally utilize and does make a huge difference. Its not 100% clean - but from my non scientific eyes - it feels like it gets 75-80% of the dust caused by sanding drywall. My cleanup was more localized to the work area rather than caking the room in dust which I will take any day! I've patched walls in the ktichen, bathroom and walk in closet so far and cleanup as been a breeze. Good Buy!

Excellent Sander for Popcorn Ceilings
Definitely a 5-star. Using this for removal of popcorn ceiling. I scape the popcorn off and then use this to smooth out the ceiling, mud any imperfections, and then use this again to smooth out the mud. My setup is my 40-year old Genie 10 gallon wet/dry vac with a Harbor Freight high-efficiency vacuum dust collection bag, and a 10 ft Harbor Freight vacuum hose (part of their auto detailing accessory kit). The sander fits directly into the Harbor Freight vacuum hose. I would say this collects at least 90% of the dust. The key is to hold the sanding pad flat against the ceiling and to not move too fast. If you go too fast the dust does not have time to drop into the vacuum slot. If you are moving at the right speed you can see the dust come off the edge of the sanding pad right into the vacuum slot. Every hour or so I take the system outside, take the hoses apart and blow all the dust off with a leaf blower. Like all sanders, it does leave dust on the ceiling. I remove that with a dry micro-fiber mop. The result is a very good surface ready for priming and painting.

It ACTUALLY works like a charm!
I’m shocked this works—it really, really works. Not a spot of dust on my floor (see pics!!) after sanding a rather thick application of mud. I’m a habitual DIYer but like so many, I’ve still not mastered the fine art of drywall mudding and taping. I was really skeptical. In fact, I already own another Hyde product that is much higher quality and works ok. This thing is as cheap as it gets, the hose has the quality of a disposable straw. And it’s short. I connected it to my other longer, better Hyde hose for added length and had to tape the input into my trusty old shop vac but wow, it caught nearly 100% of the dust and I had to really sand. I always mud way too thick. Nothing. No dust rimming my floor. Nothing coating my eye rows or hands or leaving a fine layer on my furniture. WOW. I have an extension hose on order. It’s totally worth it to buy an extra long hose and to resort to taping the inlet attachment on to my shop vac. (I also use a bag in my shop vac to save the motor from drywall dust). It’s all worth every. single. penny. I don’t have drywall dust wafting through my house, settling on my furniture and being sucked into my HVAC. That’s AMAZING.

It works!!
It really works! Did a bit of renovation in my bedroom - had to patch up some holes and deal with some deep scratches in the wall. Plastered everything and went for the finish with this thing. It sucked all the dust in and I wish I found this earlier as it would've saved me so much time, effort, and a clogged nose! For that price - get it!

Works
Such a simple idea but it works! I paint for other for my second income and winter season is my biggest problem. This is where all my works stops due to cold (can’t work on garage). This winter, I decided to do smaller stuff in my basement but I still had the problem polluting my basement and eventually home with dust. This is a big NO NO for me. I decided to give it a try and purchased this. Used yeasterday with my shop vac and it picked up dust beautifully, no duct clouds from hand sanding. The hose could be more flexible and a bit longer to make this a better quality item but for the price it works very well!
