Shimano Curado MGL: Effortless Casting Meets Elite Control
After pairing the Shimano Curado MGL with my St. Croix Mojo Bass Trigon (Medium-Fast, 3/16 – 5/8 oz), this reel quickly became my go-to for finesse and lighter baitcasting work. The MGL spool design really shines — it starts up with minimal effort, making it perfect for throwing small jigs, weightless plastics, and light cranks that most other baitcasters struggle with. What stands out most is the smoothness and control. The combination of the SVS Infinity braking and micro-adjustable tension knob makes backlash almost nonexistent once you’re dialed in. It handles light braid or fluoro equally well and launches lures far beyond what you’d expect from a compact reel. The build quality feels premium — tight tolerances, clean machining, and that classic Shimano refinement when you engage the handle. Outstanding Reel for the money!
Excellent reel at this price point. I do prefer the Daiwa Tatula SV TW 70 over this reel, so where I looking for this size reel and brand loyalty were not an issue, I would get the Diawa. But you can't go wrong with this MGL. It cast excellent, build quality is great, functionality is butter and ages like wine w/ proper maintenance. It stays in rotation.

Buyer beware
I bought a used like new Curado 71 And came with the wrong spool. The spool had red accents like from the scorpion and was not an MGL spool. Functionally it worked. Buyer beware!
