Troubled Mind

This album grabs you and takes you on a fantastic musical ride through a full menu of emotions from heartbreak to light hearted and fun to adventure to deep soul searching and back to the trials of love again. The lyrics are interesting and at times beautifully written. The more I listen to this album the more I enjoy it. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful feel to his sound, makes me want to return to my old Kentucky home! Or my Scots-Irish home long b4 that.

I came across a video by Doug Balmain on YouTube before this album came out, and unfortunately after he had already reached his kickstarter goal for project funding. I wish I had been able to contribute to the kickstarter that helped make this album possible. Once I bought the album I knew I was supporting someone with a lot of promise and plenty to say as a musician. He is a Philosophy major and it really shows in his writing. I'm no professional music critic but I feel I know good music when I hear it. Doug puts his heart into each song and its easy to see. I love the wonderful music and how well it compliments the thoughtful lyrics. I have always been a fan of true country music and the Americana and bluegrass influences in Doug's music along with his writing style make for a genuine sound that any real country music fan would appreciate. While it is pretty easy to tell that this is his first record, it shows that he has a lot to offer and as his career continues his music will only get better and better. I can't wait until he is able to tour in my area!

Fun album. No need to really describe the music since you can sample it here, but I will take a crack anyway. Much of it is almost blue-grass, except fully developed into country arrangements. Very impressive production. Great lyrics and singing, maybe that's where my blue grass feeling comes from, nearly on the verge of a yodel here and there. Then there are moments of of much greater intensity with some of the more poignant lyrics. I even, and I'm not making this up, got a chill during one song.Another song reminding me of Jonny Lang, the young blues prodigy, but that's only because I was trying to find comparisons. The work stands on its own, and I'm glad to have it in my library. I have the feeling this would be a great bunch to hear/see live as well.

This album is a refreshing collection of genuine music. His music covers a wide range from up beat dancing songs to slower lyrical pieces, as well as an acoustic number (which happens to me my favorite off the album). I have it playing in a mix with Mumford and Son, Old Crow Medicine Show, Rolling Stones and others and we listen to it through out the day. It is a great album to have and listen to no matter if you're driving, around the house, or relaxing in the evening. We enjoy it and find it to be down to earth feel good music.

Wonderful lyrics and great music for going down the road with the windows open. Every time I listen, I have a new favorite song.
